Work well underway on the refurbishment of The Tannery

The refurbishment of the Manor Tannery into 16 beautiful new cottages is the latest phase of The Tannery, Linden Homes’ popular development in the historic Cornish village of Grampound – and work is already well underway.

Surrounded by stunning countryside, the Manor Tannery is being sensitively converted to create a bespoke collection of one, two, three and four bedroom homes. Traditional materials and building techniques are being used to blend with nearby buildings and the existing character of the village.

Until its closure in 2000, the Manor Tannery produced high grade heavy leather using traditional oak bark tanning techniques and was one of the few tanneries in Great Britain capable of doing so.

Originally the tannery of the Manor of Grampound, it had been owned by the Croggon family since at least 1798 and was the last operating tanyard in the county. Tanning and working with leather were important industries in the 19th and early 20th centuries in Cornwall and a tannery has been on the site since medieval times.

Gary O’Gorman, Linden Homes’ site manager for The Tannery said: “It’s an amazing development to be working on, I love the history of the buildings and the stone masons and carpenters are really enjoying the work.

“The homes are going to have a lot of character but they’ll also be finished to a high specification and will benefit from new kitchens and bathrooms. It’s not every day you get to work on a project like this and it’s been really interesting.”

Priced from £149,950, the refurbished homes have just been released for sale and there are also two new build properties available.

The sales and marketing suite is open daily, 10am – 5pm, off Bosillion Lane in Grampound, TR2 4RR.
