Bellway Homes’ City East scheme, part of the extensive and exciting Barking Riverside regeneration, has been recognised with two prestigious housing awards this year. The development won the 2013 Graham Pye Award for ‘homes with plans that work best for families’ and more recently the Sunday Times British Homes Award for ‘best development’.

Success seems to be catching at City East, as the homes have proved to be extremely popular with buyers who are keen to be part of a new sustainable community. The next phase of homes at City East, the Montpellier Court Apartments have been released, offering buyers a stylish collections of one and two bedroom apartments.

Karen Coulson, Sales Director of Bellway Essex comments: “We are really proud of what has been achieved this year at City East and the whole team at Barking Riverside is delighted that the development has been recognised for its great qualities. Buyers at City East are becoming part of something really exciting so it’s no wonder that homes here are selling well.”

City East is an eye-catching development of stylish one, two and three bedroom apartments and three and four bedroom homes in a vibrant new community in Barking. From inception to build, Bellway wanted to create a sustainable community. The homes have high levels of insulation to reduce energy consumption and all the properties feature an area of ‘living roof’ planted with species native to the area.

Wildlife is being encouraged to flourish through the provision of habitats, including bird and bat boxes. Many of the homes are designed around a courtyard setting, with community gardens and orchards surrounded by rain gardens and most of the apartments have private balconies making good use of space and light. Several children’s play areas are located throughout the development too, promoting outdoor play in a safe environment.

From first time buyers to families or downsizers, there is something for everyone at City East. The Violet is a beautifully laid out one bedroom apartment with a balcony priced from £143,995. For something a little larger there is the two bedroom Bartsia priced from £167,995. The two bedroom home with a balcony features a master bedroom with en-suite shower room. The Foxglove, a three bedroom house set over three floors recalls a traditional townhouse style, with beautiful first floor terraces is priced from £264,950.

All the properties enjoy an excellent specification. The fitted kitchens include integrated stainless steel oven and hob with stainless steel chimney hood and splash back. The bathrooms feature Roca Laura wall hung wash basins with contemporary chrome taps and Bristan Artisan showers.

Recognising that a new home is more that bricks and mortar, residents can become involved with the work of the Barking Riverside Community Interest Company (CIC). The CIC will establish community liaison groups enabling residents to have a say in what happens in their area and to be more active in decision making. The CIC also manages and maintains public areas, open spaces, play equipment, street cleaning, waste management and maintaining areas of landscaping.

The Rivergate Centre, which opened in September 2011, includes a nursery, the George Carey Church of England primary school, a place of worship, healthcare facilities, social enterprise units and a community café, ensuring that residents at City East have access to essential services from day one.

Nearby leisure amenities include the Abbey Sports Centre in Barking with excellent facilities including a well-equipped fitness studio, squash courts and swimming pool. Barking Park hosts events and activities throughout the year from funfairs to firework displays. Sporting facilities are also on offer at Mayesbrook Park, which is home to a number of the Borough’s sports clubs.

Sustainable transport is at the heart of the development with the expansion of the East London Transit; a high quality 24 hours bus service that provides a fast and direct link between Ilford, Barking Riverside and Dagenham Dock. Barking Station provides commuters with a choice of routes, with London Underground services on the District and Hammersmith & City line, London Overground towards Gospel Oak and c2c services to Fenchurch Street and Shoeburyness.

Prices at City East range from £134,995 for a one bedroom apartment, from £164,995 for a two bedroom apartment and from £264,995 for a three bedroom house. For further information, visit bellway.co.uk.
