So pleased was Topspeed Couriers with its first 10 fuel-efficient Mercedes-Benz Citan vans that it quickly returned to Warrington Dealer Enza with an order for a further five.

Founded in 1986, Topspeed has grown to become a UK market leader in event, process and time-critical transport solutions for clients with hazardous, secure, nuclear and medical logistics requirements.

The company operates a fleet of more than 50 vans from bases throughout the UK. Vehicles are managed using a state-of-the-art tracking system and maintained in-house at the company’s recently opened Knutsford headquarters.

Launched in January, the Citan marks the entry of Mercedes-Benz into the small van market. Topspeed was already running larger Mercedes-Benz Vito and Sprinter vans when it made its first investments in the new model, following a series of contracts ‘wins’. Its Citans are all Long-bodied 109 CDIs and powered by clean-burning 66 kW (90 hp) common-rail diesel engines.

Stephen Clegg, Topspeed’s Managing Director, explains: “With hard-earned reputations to guard, our private and public sector customers expect the very highest standards and we need to be sure that the fleet can cope with tough operational requirements.

“Our vans cover high mileages but we cannot use this as an excuse for a breakdown. Only Mercedes-Benz offers us the reliability, longevity and ease of maintenance, coupled with comprehensive warranty cover and back-up, which we need.”

And he adds: “We will need more vehicles as our business continues to grow, and provided these vans continue to live up to our expectations I feel sure that Topspeed Couriers will be making further purchases from Mercedes-Benz.”

The Citan range combines market-leading fuel efficiency of up to 65.7 mpg with CO2 emissions as low as 112 g/km, and is packed with clever features such as a folding bulkhead, to provide maximum load length as well as protection for the driver.

Panel van versions are also available in Compact and Extra-long lengths. The Citan Traveliner is based on the Long wheelbase and has a folding rear bench seat, allowing it to carry the driver and up to four passengers. The Citan Dualiner, meanwhile, has the same seating configuration but, because it is based on the Extra-long format, also offers a practical cargo space. The Citan has a volume carrying capacity of up to 3.8 m³ and a maximum payload potential of 735 kg.
