Telnames, a leader in self-service mobile-friendly websites for local businesses, has announced support for the UK’s first ever Small Business Saturday. The UK’s first Small Business Saturday is a day-long celebration of small and local businesses being held on 7th December 2013. In support of Small Business Saturday (SBS), Telnames is offering new customers a special discount of a third off a Telnames mobile-optimised websites via the promotional order code ‘SBS’. The offer is open until the 31st December 2013.

Proposed by Chuka Umunna MP earlier this year, the grass-roots movement has grown rapidly, with SBS UK enjoying cross-party backing including from Prime Minister David Cameron, ministers, MPs and local authorities. American Express is sponsoring SBS UK along with support from O2, the entrepreneurs James Caan and Martha Lane Fox, the Federation of Small Businesses, the Forum for Private Business, the Association of Convenience Stores, the British Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Town & City Management representing hundreds of thousands of local businesses.

The Small Business Saturday initiative began in 2010 in the United States and with cross-party support from politicians, President Barack Obama, American Express and many other businesses. Now an established commercial celebration, in 2012 Small Business Saturday generated $5.5 (£3.5) billion in sales in the US and led to an increase in long-term custom.

In support of the UK’s inaugural Small Business Saturday, Telnames is announcing that new customers will receive a third (33%) off a Telnames mobile-optimised website if they enter the promotional code ‘SBS’ when signing up for their .tel website. Telnames websites are designed with mobile users in mind. They are quick and easy to set up and changes can be made at any time. Thousands of shoppers will be using smartphones to search for local businesses on Small Business Saturday and in the run-up to Christmas. Businesses from all sectors can now benefit from the explosion in smartphone use and mobile search for £9.95 (all inclusive) if they take advantage of this special offer.

Telnames’ Chief Marketing Officer Ian Bowen-Morris comments: “Small Business Saturday is a fantastic campaign and Telnames is very excited to be involved. Telnames supports thousands of UK businesses by making it easy for them to get online in minutes and present their essential contact information on a single profile page designed for fast and elegant display on all devices, including smartphones. Telnames provide a great first step online or a simple fix for businesses with a traditional website that is not mobile-friendly. Given the very low cost of just £9.95 using code ‘SBS’ we expect thousands of businesses to visit telnames.com and take advantage of our SBS offer and get fully involved with this unique and important celebration of small business.”

Commenting on the event and the importance of small business to the UK economy, Labour’s Shadow Minister for Business Toby Perkins MP, said: “Employing over 14 million people, SMEs count for 99.9% of all businesses in the UK which equates to 59.3 per cent of private sector employment and 48.1 per cent of private sector turnover. There firms are the lifeblood of our economy. As Labour’s Shadow Minister for Small Business, I’ve travelled round the UK with the Labour Councils’ Business Network championing small business and promoting the high street. I’m pleased to be supporting Small Business Saturday; it will be a celebration of the plethora of innovative entrepreneurs across the UK who are striving to create the jobs our economy badly needs and keep our high streets distinctive.”
