Rare Hideaways finds 10 more hidden gems

The Prisoner at Portmeirion

The team at Rare Hideaways – the finest collection of self-catering accommodation to be found the length and breadth of Wales – have been scouring the country over the last 12 months and have discovered 10 new properties which have been added to the 2014/15 brochure, taking the total number of ‘invitation only’ members to 37.

They range from a stunning three-bedroomed Penthouse with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Langland Bay near Swansea, to the famous Portmeirion Cottages which featured in the cult 1960s TV show The Prisoner, and eco-friendly Banceithin Farm which allows guests to bring their own horses.

Here is a brief summary of the 10 new properties:

North Wales

Carrog Farm Cottages on the Llyn Peninsula is comprised of a collection of three very high quality renovated out buildings sleeping from four to eight people). The cottages are perfect for families wishing to holiday together and for exploring the Peninsula and the Llyn Coastal Path. One week costs from £250.

The Hen Dy is a four bedroomed property located on the 5000 acre Nanhoron Estate – home to the Harden family for over 700 years – on the Llyn Peninsular near the sailing centre of Abersoch. Built of traditional Welsh stone and slate, the property – which is renowned for its pretty gardens – also welcomes well-behaved dogs. One week costs from £750.

Those of a certain age will not need an introduction to the famous Italianate village of Portmeirion near Porthmadog, with its 15 cottages – some of which sit on a cliff top overlooking the estuary – which featured in the cult 60s TV programme The Prisoner. Furnished to a very high standard, the cottages sleep from three to nine people. One week costs from £610.

Ynys Pandy is a four bedroomed property situated on a hill on the edge of Snowdonia national park in a secluded, peaceful spot. Just a few miles from the beach, the property also has a swing, climbing frame and BBQ making it ideal for families. It is also pet-friendly and has a cycle route which starts at the bottom of the garden. One week costs from £440.

Mid Wales

Banceithin Farm near Tragaron is located in the heart of ‘Welsh’ Wales between the market town of Tregaron and the pretty Cardigan Bay resort of Aberaeron. There are two luxuriously furnished properties on the 10-acre smallholding (with lots of animals for children to meet) sleeping from two to six people. One week costs from £470. 
  
Brandy House Farm near Knighton in mid Wales is the perfect property for those who wish to take their own horses away with them to explore the area on horseback (also great for walkers with Offa’s Dyke nearby). The property has stables, paddocks and a huge 6000 acres of off-road riding right on the doorstep. There are two cottages one sleeping four, the other five and a week costs from £357.

Troedyrhiw on the edge of Ceredigion and Pembrokeshire is comprised of five cottages sleeping from two to eight people; it is ideal for larger groups – accommodating up to 24 people. The properties are surrounded by well-kept lawns and there is an idyllic wooded valley at the end of a road, half-a-mile long, with no through traffic making it safe for children. One week costs from £420.

South Wales

The owners of Coed Haroldston at Broad Haven say that anyone who likes woods, walks, wildlife and coastline will love it there! To restore the outhouse, the owners had to spend thousands to build a bat house, as there were several species living there! The three properties, sleeping from two to six people, are just a five minute walk from the sands of Broad Haven and the coastal path with a week costing from £580.

Jordanston Holiday Cottages is a collection of four properties, sleeping from four to eight people, located in St. Florence near Tenby in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. All the cottages have been beautifully decorated and one was an 18th century blacksmith’s shop – now completely unrecognisable from its previous life. One property called ‘Just a Cottage’ comes complete with a private hot tub. The properties cost from £295 per week.

The Penthouse at Langland near Swansea is a seriously smart apartment with floor-to-ceiling windows, and views over Langland Bay and across the Bristol Channel to Devon, from its elevated position on the Gower Peninsular. The property, which also has its own private beach house, has three bedrooms and costs from £995 for a week.
