Jet2.com, East Midland’s fastest growing airline, marked the first ever flight to Paris from East Midlands yesterday with a fun-filled morning of Disney themed celebrations as passengers arrived for the inaugural flight.

And to mark the first flight and the start of package breaks by sister company Jet2holidays to the fairy-tale world of Disneyland Paris, the airline has found that Disney themed names are more common than you’d think!

In terms of the most famous characters, last year in the UK, there were 18 babies named Mickey, 17 named Donald and an amazing 104 newborns named Minnie. More popular were Daisy (2,209), Elsa (286) and Woody (85). On the other end of the scale there were three Bambis, three Genies and four fantastically named Nemos born! Even celebs got in on the act with Fearne Cotton naming her son Rex, Kate Winslet introducing Bear and Penelope Cruz choosing Luna for her daughter.

Unfortunately there were no Nemos or Genies on the passenger list yesterday, but everyone onboard was treated to a taste of Disneyland Paris and presented with a set of iconic Mickey and Minnie Mouse ears to mark Jet2.com’s special first flight.

Steve Heapy, Chief Executive Officer of Jet2.com, said: “We are very excited with our new East Midlands to Paris route; it’s great news for customers. The addition of these flights and also our Jet2holidays Disneyland Paris packages is a further demonstration of our commitment to expanding our choice of top European city destinations from East Midlands Airport.”

Andy Cliffe, Managing Director East Midlands Airport, said: “We are incredibly pleased to see the inaugural flight to Paris take off with Jet2.com yesterday. Paris has always been a popular destination from the East Midlands with both business and leisure passengers and with Jet2holidays offering packages to Disneyland Paris, we are sure that this route will prove to be a huge success.”

Jet2.com flights from East Midlands to Paris Charles de Gaulle (Terminal 3) start at just £34 one way including taxes. There are four flights per week on Mondays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays – perfect timings for a long or short weekend break to the romantic city or Disneyland Paris.

Disneyland Paris offers with Jet2holidays are:
