With the gap between property prices in London and the rest of the country continuing to widen, many house hunters are being steered away from the capital to look at buying a new home in Bath.

Just an hour and a half from London Paddington, the world heritage city is now attracting an increasing number of people keen on buying a city centre apartment in one of the UK’s most popular locations – but at a fraction of the cost of property in the capital.

The price rises in London are also making people who currently live in Bath reconsider their options, especially when it comes to moving.

Crest Nicholson sales and marketing director Susan Young said house hunters can now buy a top drawer penthouse at the company’s flagship Bath Riverside development for significantly less than they would pay for a small flat in an outlying London borough.

She said: “The latest property price analysis from Nationwide reveals that growth in London is now 18 per cent higher than the pre-recession peak.

“Although Bath prices remained buoyant through the downturn they are still a little way behind those in London. This has put Bath Riverside firmly on the radar of people who are looking at their options and will simply not be able to afford to live in the capital.”

Susan said many house hunters found the widening variation in prices between the rapidly inflating London market and the regions was just ‘too good to be true’.

With a better standard of living, open countryside on the doorstep and all that the world heritage city has to offer residents, deciding on which is the better option really is a no brainer.

She added: “People got in to a bidding war over a two-bedroom ground floor flat in Balham which reportedly sold for £590,000.

“We are offering brand new penthouse apartments at Bath Riverside from £475,000 – leaving new owners with more than a hundred thousand pounds in their pocket!”

The top-floor, penthouse pads currently available at the development really do have the wow factor.

The perfect retreat for those who enjoy a living space that comes with plenty of room, is light and airy and affords views unlike anything else in the city, anyone interested should make their way to the development to see them for themselves.

Finished to the highest specification those who secure one of these properties will then be able to enjoy all the trappings penthouse living brings from al fresco dining and soaking up the sun on the decked terrace to enjoying the peace and security of their top floor retreat.

The bespoke kitchens and bathrooms are also finished to the highest specification while the property is softly warmed through under floor heating.

With Bath’s housing market outperforming national averages, the city has also seen some of the steepest rent rises in the country with average year-on-year increases actually outstripping the capital.

Susan said: “With only a limited number of penthouses currently available, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for people to buy a genuine dream home at a far more competitive price than those in the capital.”
