New LINK initiative lets customers suggest ATMs to dispense £5 notes

8th May 2014 Print

LINK, the UK’s cash machine network, has today (8 May) announced a new initiative that allows customers to suggest a cash machine that they would like to dispense £5 notes.

Being able to withdraw fivers from cash machines is useful for some customers, particularly those on tighter budgets. By completing a form on the LINK website, anyone can suggest an existing cash machine that they’d like to be able to withdraw £5 notes from. LINK will then pass the request on to the relevant cash machine owner, for consideration.

The form can be accessed at: link.co.uk/cardholders/suggestasite

John Howells, LINK CEO, commented: “Over the last year we have seen great success with our Suggest a Site initiative and, with the expansion of the service, we hope to build on this success. By extending the initiative to include £5 notes at ATMs we will be able to work with our members to ensure the cash machine industry is even more responsive to its customers’ needs.”

LINK’s Financial Inclusion programme was launched in 2007 and over 900 new free-to-use ATMs have now been installed at locations that previously had limited access to cash. The ‘Suggest a Site’ initiative was launched in 2012 as part of a number of measures by LINK and the ATM industry to improve access to cash for consumers. New site suggestions are now being received at the rate about five a week. There are now over 48,000 free-to-use ATMs in the UK, which is more than ever before, and at the end of March 2014 over 70% of all ATMs were free-to-use.
