Link road to new Weston village officially opened

A leading Somerset builder has opened a major link road as it marks the transformation of a former airfield in Weston-super-Mare.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley is building around 2,500 homes to create a striking new development called Haywood Village.

The Cross Airfield Link road has been created to join Haywood Village to the A371 and Winterstoke Road. To mark this major milestone in the development, an official ceremony took place on June 6th to open this important road.

Carl Haley, managing director of Persimmon Homes Severn Valley, said: “The landscape of this part of Weston-super-Mare is changing dramatically bringing much-needed homes to the area as well as new commercial premises within the Junction 21 Enterprise Area.

“These are exciting times and the opening of this road is a pivotal moment in the creation of this residential development.”

Haywood Village will comprise of more than 900 properties in its first phase, with a selection of two, three and four-bedroom homes available. The homes are suitable for a wide cross-section of buyers including first-time buyers, growing families and those looking to down size.

The development offers great views of the Mendip Hills and is within easy reach of the main town, as well as having great access to the M5 and excellent rail links for commuters.

Carl added: “For us, Haywood Village is a real return to traditional values and the homes will truly compliment the surrounding area. It is already proving popular with many people reserving the homes off plan.

“The development is part of the Junction 21 Enterprise Area, which aims to create 10,000 jobs by 2026, so we expect an influx of workers as well as people wanting to move up the property ladder.”

The chairman of North Somerset Council, Councillor David Hitchins, officially opened the CAL road.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Nigel Ashton, Executive Member responsible for Weston’s Urban Extension, said: “The creation of the new village will be a real boost to the local economy, both in its creation as well as the regeneration and expansion of the nearby business park known as Weston Business Quarter. Since its inception, this has been a crucial part of our planned development within North Somerset.”
