Acreage the size of six football pitches and over 500,000 maize plants will be used to create what is potentially the biggest white rabbit in the world, in the coming weeks.

Red House Farm in Dunham Massey, near Altrincham in Cheshire, has laid out a pattern within its maize crop that will form the shape of the White Rabbit, from Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’, by the time its maize maze opens on July 19, 2014.

The White Rabbit design measures 182 meters by 139 meters. The farm doubts there is another White Rabbit of this size to be visited anywhere in the world this summer!

The maize crop will be around 3-feet high by opening and will grow to 8 feet by the end of the summer. The Red House Farm maize maze will feature quizzes and other devices intended to allow visitors of all ages, from toddler to grandparent, to interact with its natural labyrinth.

Red House Farm’s maize maze for 2014 has been designed by specialist, Adrian Fisher, who has acquired a great reputation for fun and intriguing designs. The farm will have a team of employees within the maze, ready to point families in the right direction, so there will be no disappearing down holes or encounters with Mock Turtles!

The farm will be linking to Lewis Carroll’s story with a series of competitions, special weekend events and initiatives staged throughout the summer and until the maze closes on September 2.

Some of the maize maze’s first visitors will be children from Bowdon Church School, visiting on July 21, but families will also be able to visit the attraction between 9.30 and 5pm every day from July 19.

A value-for-money entrance fee of £6.95 per head (or £22 for a group of 4) provides the opportunity to picnic, or buy food on site, have fun on a barrel train, straw mountain, trampolines, 20-foot climbing wall, laser quest zone, sandpit and bouncy castles and spend time in the tearooms, farm shop, specialist cake outlet (Kinsella Cakes) and interiors shop (Gingham & Rose).

Red House Farm’s owner, Jonny Hewitt, says: “This year’s maize maze will be great fun in itself, but also the focus for a lot of other fun things to do. We will announce details of these throughout the coming months, so the message is ‘watch this space’. Visiting more than once during the summer holidays will allow your children to experience all of our special add-ons.’
