Go back to the drawing board in Tuscany

18th July 2014 Print

Rather than flopping on a beach this summer, why not make better use of your time off – you never know, it may even lead to a new career. The Watermill at Posara in Italy offers a range of painting, writing and creative courses held at its picturesque 17th century restored grain, chestnut and olive mill in north-west Tuscany. Food plays an important role, too, with dishes such as gorgonzola soufflé, Ligurian pesto using fresh basil from the garden, and homemade tiramisu all receiving rave reviews from guests.

From August to October 2014, the following courses still have spaces:

Georgia Mansur – watercolours, impasto acrylics and oils (16-23 August 2014): Californian-born Georgia enjoys teaching in the great outdoors, inspiring her students to interpret the world around them using colour and shape.

Laraine Simpson – oils, pastels, watercolours (30 August-6 September 2014): experienced tutor Laraine has a structured approach to developing creative self-expression, and equips students with practical techniques supported by relevant theory.

Laurence Marks – TV Comedy and Drama scriptwriting (6-13 September 2014): having penned popular TV dramas such as Birds of a Feather and The New Statesman, Laurence will demonstrate how to write scripts that stand up and get noticed and will provide tips about writing a classic television comedy.

Meg Gardiner – Writing Crime Fiction (4-11 October): Always fancied yourself as a crime writer? Award-winning author Meg Gardiner will impart her expert knowledge to students: how to pen a page-turner which will truly grip readers. One-to-one tutorials will help students of all levels to hone their skills.

David Taylor – Watercolours (14-21 October): learn from one of Australia’s leading watercolour painters on this week-long painting course. David’s 40-year painting career has earned him over 100 accolades and he will pass on his expertise and technical prowess to students.

Courses cost from £1,310 pp (two sharing) including all tuition, seven nights’ accommodation, all meals (including local restaurants), drinks and aperitivi, transfers (to/from Pisa), local transport, materials and a mid-week excursion. Flights extra.
