On 8 September 2014, Garuda Indonesia will introduce its direct service from London Gatwick to Jakarta via Amsterdam using the new Boeing 777-300ER. The new service is part of the airline's strategic international network expansion programme offering customers the fastest and only direct connection between Europe and Indonesia.

Garuda Indonesia President and CEO, Emirsyah Satar said: “The opening of the London – Jakarta service will support economic activities between Indonesia and the UK, in light of the growing trade transaction between the countries each year. In addition, we hope the operation of this new route will have a positive impact on the local business scene” explained Mr Satar.

“The launching of the London – Jakarta service on 8 September 2014 is in conjunction with the government's programme and commitment to enhance bilateral relations between our two countries, especially in the trade sector. As we all know, in 2015, the government aims to reach a total trade value of $7 billion between the two countries, an equivalent of £4.16 billion” added Mr Satar.

The London – Jakarta via Amsterdam route is the only direct service from Europe to Indonesia as well as the fastest, most comfortable and efficient. The route will connect with the Amsterdam – Jakarta non-stop service, therefore establishing the London – Amsterdam – Jakarta – Amsterdam - London service.

The new service will fly five times a week, every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Departing from London Gatwick at 13.10 LT, GA089 will arrive at Amsterdam at 15.15 LT and will depart for Jakarta at 17.00 LT, arriving in Indonesia's capital city at 11.40 LT the next day. On the return GA 088 departs from Jakarta at 00.40 LT and arrives in Amsterdam at 09.40 LT, and will continue onwards to London, leaving Amsterdam at 11.55 LT to arrive in London Gatwick at 12.00 LT the same day.

The opening of the London – Jakarta route will offer passengers from the UK easier access to Indonesia and also to the Asia Pacific region, with the route connecting with Garuda Indonesia's onwards service to Australia.

For the new flight, Garuda Indonesia will operate a Boeing 777-300 ER with a capacity for 314 passengers in a three-class configuration, consisting of eight seats in First Class, 38 seats in Business Class, and 268 seats in Economy Class. The fleet comes equipped with Inflight Connectivity and Live TV for all passengers, as well as Chef on Board for First Class passengers. The service offered on board will give passengers extra comfort during long-haul flights.

The availability of Inflight Connectivity on board enables passengers to connect to the internet and continue carrying out business activities throughout the flight. Meanwhile, passengers can also access Live TV or live broadcast from six international channels; CNN International, BBC World, BBC Arabic, NHK World Premium, Euronews, and CNBC, including live football matches on the sport channel.
