Disabled people seeking a brand new home that’s perfect for their needs will find just what they are looking for at Chobham Manor, the first residential neighbourhood on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, east London.

The London Legacy Development Corporation and Chobham Manor LLP, a joint venture between Taylor Wimpey and L&Q, have designed a neighbourhood suitable for a wide range of Londoners who want to build their lives in an exciting new community, including well-designed homes for wheelchair users.

All of the homes at Chobham Manor will be designed to meet Lifetime Homes Standards, ensuring they are suitable for the changing needs of residents at different stages of life, including people with mobility impairments.

In addition, 10 per cent of homes at Chobham Manor will include features to ensure they are adaptable for wheelchair users.

Simon Baxter, spokesperson for Chobham Manor LLP, says: “A key aim of Chobham Manor is to become a neighbourhood that is suitable for a wide range of people – if it wasn’t, it simply wouldn’t be a neighbourhood.

“The wheelchair adaptable homes which we are providing across Chobham Manor will have space standards built into their design and will require minor non-structural alterations to make them fully wheelchair accessible.”

The first phase of homes at Chobham Manor went on sale in May, and includes three wheelchair adaptable properties – a one and a two-bedroom apartment, plus a three-bedroom house.

Features of these wheelchair adaptable homes include provision of accessible parking spaces, internal mobility scooter storage and charge points, allowance for full wheelchair circulation within the homes and communal spaces and storage.

In addition, Lifetime Homes Standards include features such as accessible communal lifts, allowance for wheelchair turning spaces in living and dining areas, the potential for future stair lift installation, space for through-the-floor lifts in houses and duplex apartments, accessible bathrooms and increased hallway widths.

Chobham Manor LLP are also supporting this year’s National Paralympic Day on Saturday 30 August. Visitors to the event, which includes international sports competition for just £5 and a free family festival showcasing disability sports and arts, will be encouraged to visit the Sales and Marketing Suite to learn more about the accessible homes.

The homes at Chobham Manor benefit from an incredible location both in terms of accessibility and amenities, bordering Lee Valley VeloPark, the wide open spaces of the north of the Park and East Village, the former Athletes Village.

Seventy-five per cent of the homes will be family homes with three or more bedrooms and 28 per cent of homes across the whole Chobham Manor development will be affordable homes, the first of which will be available in summer 2015.

The current release of homes for sale on the open market comprises four-bedroom houses and three-bedroom maisonettes and duplex apartments, with prices starting at £540,000.

Chobham Manor will consist of five principal types of housing – townhouses, mews-style properties, maisonettes, duplexes and mansion house apartments ranging in size from one to five bedrooms.

Some properties have been designed to appeal to multiple generations of the same family, while all will include outside space, including terraces, balconies, courtyards or gardens.

In addition to homes, the first phase of Chobham Manor will also include retail space, play areas and communal gardens.

The Sales and Marketing Suite and show apartments are located at Olympic Park Avenue, E20 5LR, and open daily between 10am and 5.30pm. Alternatively, visit chobhammanor.co.uk.
