Travelling in America you’ve got two choices: try and see everything or choose the best of the best. Our advice is opt for the latter, because unless you have unlimited funds and several lifetimes at your disposal, seeing every inch of this immense and fascinating country is a tough call. So be decisive and whatever you miss don’t miss our top seven must-sees.

Las Vegas – The Autonomous State of Excess

Las Vegas is one of the most colourful and thrilling cities on earth. From glamorous casinos and world famous acts, to its legendary ‘Strip’, this  is where America does show-time, all the time.

Florida – Alpha Cities and Endless Beaches

Florida delivers, whether you want sunshine and exotic beaches, easy-going Cuban culture, and relentless Miami music or just like to sit around and watch the sea, maybe fish a bit and eat amazing seafood. For the legendary theme parks which originally lit up the Sunshine State to the strangely beautiful Everglades, exotic Keys and the still unspoiled tranquillity of the Gulf Coast, click here for a great range of Florida holidays

Mardi Gras – If You Need an Excuse for New Orleans

The world’s full of Mardi Gras celebrations but nowhere does the extravagance, exuberance and passion of the final fling before Lent quite like New Orleans. Mardi Gras is usually in February and always unforgettable.

Grand Canyon – Once In A Lifetime

The Grand Canyon is immense and breathtakingly beautiful. It’s one of those places we all think we know until we see it. Nothing in your imagination could prepare you for how spectacular the Grand Canyon is in reality. And if you’re feeling courageous why not take a helicopter ride over this great wonder of the world?

Central Park – New York City Playground

If you’re in New York, head for Central Park, hire a bike and explore a legend. There’s Shakespeare in summer, skating in winter, gigs and great hotdogs all year round, early morning running, romantic boating and even a zoo. And the most famous park in the world is about the only place you’ll see New Yorkers relax (almost).

Chinatown, San Francisco – The First and Best

This is the world’s largest Chinatown and it’s just as exciting, colourful, exotic, historic and fascinating as you’d expect. The food is wonderful, the shops are intriguing and for all the noise and drive there are some gorgeously tranquil spots to sit and soak it all up.

Hollywood – More American Than America

Take a Studio Tour, stride over the Walk of Fame, stroll down Hollywood Boulevard or visit the lovely Griffith Observatory for the best view of the legendary Hollywood Sign. You can’t visit America without paying tribute to its most famous export, the movies.

Seven places you must see might not seem like much. But America does added value as standard. So, even if you only see one thing on the list, it’s probably surrounded by a dozen others just as amazing.
