Clashing block colours and plenty of textures through the home are set to be the top trends in interior design for autumn/winter 2014, according to Taylor Wimpey designers.

The leading housebuilder works closely with top interior designers to ensure the very latest styles are showcased in its showhomes up and down the UK – and predicts that frosted glass and cold bright colours are expected to feature heavily this coming season.

As the nights draw in and we all spend more time indoors, Taylor Wimpey is inviting homeowners to take inspiration from the following trends and give their home a seasonal makeover:

Expect to see lots of textures, which interior designers say offer a design antidote to counteract all the smooth, glossy, flawless perfection of the i-world we’re now living in.

Tapestry and bark effects will appear prominently in soft furnishings such as rugs and cushions.

Ornaments are set to feature a hammered or crumpled appearance to create texture.

The neutral colour of the season is stucco, which works well will cool marble greys and earthy browns, while providing a great contrast when paired with rich greens and petrol blue.

Bronze is expected to be popular for its versatility, while adding a touch of glamour without the flamboyance of gold.

Hot pink will feature heavily, either as a contrast against white and black or as part of a palette of cooler brights such as watermelon. Don’t be afraid!

It’s all about colour blocking this season, with vivid chlorophyll green clashing against hot pink, vibrant yellow and bright turquoise.

A key trend for autumn/winter 2014 is ‘life’, which is all about capturing moments in nature’s evolution. This means we’ll see lots of crystal effects, frosted glass, soft fur textures and cold brights.

Sarah Pasco, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey South West Thames, says: “Autumn/winter is the perfect time to give your home a new lease of life with a makeover – and you don’t need the artistic flair of Lawrence Llewelyn-Bowen to do it!

“You can inject some style into your place with a touch of paint in this season’s clashing block colours or cool brights, or add some cushions, curtains or rugs in 2014’s fashionable textures.

“And if you’re still stuck for style inspiration, you can always come and visit a showhome at one of our developments for more ideas on how to transform your home.”
