4K content choice keeps growing

4K means four times the detail of Full HD. There’s a fast-growing choice of native 4K content to enjoy on this year’s BRAVIA range of 4K Ultra HD televisions from Sony – and much more to come.

Momentum behind 4K is unstoppable, with a number of leading TV broadcasters, cable and satellite operators, along with internet streaming services, currently trialling delivery of programmes in detail-packed 4K.

The new HEVC (H.265) standard makes coding of 4K pictures and sound vastly more efficient than before. And that’s great news for anyone owning any 2014 4K Ultra HD BRAVIA TV. HEVC support features as standard on all current models, so you’re all ready to enjoy streamed or recorded 4K content today.

There’s no problem if you’ve got an older 4K Ultra HD BRAVIA TV without in-built support for HEVC. Sony’s FMP-X5 4K media player includes an on-board 4K HEVC decoder, providing an ideal solution stream the steadily-expanding wealth of 4K content.

While TV broadcasters are fine-tuning their launch plans, internet content players are already ahead of the game. Sony is engaged in a range of initiatives to enhance the 4K viewing experience in the home, some together with service partners.

Netflix broke new ground when it began offering ‘House of Cards’ and ‘Breaking Bad’ to 2014 4K Ultra HD BRAVIA TV owners earlier this year in selected markets. .

Amazon will start providing Ultra HD content on Amazon Instant Video and Prime Instant Video this year, and 2014 4K BRAVIA models will be able to receive this service in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany. In terms of broadcasts, Astra is providing a 4K demo channel available via satellite on 19.2°East, and Sony is showcasing 4K BRAVIA receiving these signals on the Sony booth.

Privilege Movies 4K promotion when you buy BRAVIA

A special new promotion lets BRAVIA customers enjoy a choice of smash-hit Hollywood movies, from Sony Pictures Entertainment, in 4K with Sony’s new Privilege Movies 4K. When purchasing any selected BRAVIA 4K models you will also be able to get five movies in native 4K, from a selection of ten titles that are pre-loaded on a portable hard drive.

Everything looks better on BRAVIA with 4K upscaling

Whether you’re watching 4K original content, your Blu-ray Disc collection, regular TV or Internet video, everything looks great on 4K Ultra HD BRAVIA televisions. Sony’s 4K X-Reality PRO chip inside the TV refines and sharpens every image – even HD or lower-resolution online videos – upscaling to 4K (3840 x 2160) pixel-count for thrilling detail.

A growing 4K Ultra HD TV range line up

In addition to the seven 4K series currently on offer from Sony, the latest introduction is the BRAVIA S90 that’s available in stores and to order direct from Sony at the beginning of October (pre-order starts right after IFA). Available in 75” and 65” sizes, its subtly curving screen wraps you gently in fabulous 4K  pictures, while advanced picture technologies brings your favourite entertainment to life with thrilling clarity, brightness and colour. A new 4.2 channel Multi-angle Live Speaker system uses precisely-directed separate drive units, wrapping you in expansive 360° surround sound. Pricing for the BRAVIA S90 75” version is €8499, while the 65” version retails for €3999.
