This October sees the launch of CRU Kafe, an exciting new start-up that sources completely organic, fair-trade coffee, packages it in eco-friendly Nespresso compatible pods and delivers it right to your door.

The CRU Kafe story began in 2013 when former model and LSE Graduate, Bodil Blain caught her Portuguese friend stuffing coffee into empty Nespresso pods and contacted her entrepreneur friend, Matt Heiman. They realised their shared need for a convenient, consistent and conscientious cup of coffee in the comfort of their own homes and hooked up with chef, John Quilter and entrepreneur, Colin Pyle to set up CRU Kafe.

CRU Kafe boast proprietary blends of beautifully roasted, never burnt coffees featuring delicate citrus flavours to notes of biscuit and caramel. CRU's flat white blend (now referred to as Light Roast) recently received first place in a blind taste test between baristas, receiving particular recognition for "best crema", "smooth flavour" and "perfectly balanced strength and taste".

Founding partner John Quilter comments, “Here at CRU we’re thrilled to be rolling out what we believe to be the best way to enjoy the finest quality ‘home brew’ coffee available. We firmly believe that taste should not be sacrificed in the name of convenience. In particular we have always felt that the entire pre-packaged coffee pod process could be done in a more thoughtful and earth-friendly way, which is why we designed a fully recyclable pod to house our exceptional blend.”

Why Choose CRU Kafe?

The CRU Kafe team has sourced perfect beans, the ideal roasting techniques and a packaging solution that fully complies with their demand for total ethical stewardship. In addition to their unique Nespresso compatible eco-pods, CRU Kafe also offers its signature blends in whole bean form. Whether customers choose the pods or the whole bean form they can purchase CRU's coffee individually or as part of a subscription deal.

CRU Kafe partners with specialised producers and farmers from Ethiopia, Peru and India. All partners employ traditional, certified organic farming methods, harvesting and processing the beans in an eco-friendly fashion. They share CRU's belief that a love of coffee and a respect for the planet need not be mutually exclusive. As a result, all of CRU's coffee is 100% natural and free from any chemicals or fertilisers.
