According to the Office for National Statistics, more than 3.3 million UK adults aged 20 to 34 were living with their parents last year. In addition, a new study from the Institute of Fiscal Studies says that record numbers of young people will live with their parents, as the boomerang generation struggles to buy their own homes. With one in four under 30s still living with their parents, the demand for properties to suite multigenerational households is on the rise.

The Green Lanes at Abode, Great Kneighton is an exciting new community being created by Countryside on the southern edge of Cambridge city centre, which is ideal for multigenerational living as they boast the layouts to suit the whole family living under one roof. The flexible barn style properties at Abode, from four to six bedrooms, are particularly idyllic for extended families looking to live together, with bedrooms and bathrooms on the second floor, where either the parents can escape to relax and unwind, or their children can appreciate their own space within the house.

Andrew Loveday, Sales & Marketing Director of Countryside’s New Homes and Communities division comments: “There is a good selection of barn-style four and six bedroom properties at Abode, with a home to suit all sorts of families. The design of each property is ideal for multigenerational households with plenty of space offered throughout so each member of the family can have their own zone as well as enjoying the home together. The kitchens are the real heart of the homes with plenty of space for a family of eight to eat together.”

The flexible living spaces offer bright and light homes with large expanses of glass, including full height glazing opening onto private outdoor areas. Each room is spaciously designed to ensure comfort and relaxation as well as practicality for the whole family to co-exist together. This includes having all master bedrooms and some second bedrooms offering en-suite facilities as well as a luxurious family bathroom. A selection of houses have home offices and many of the three storey properties enjoy extensive storage space on the top floor.
A high-end specification that includes contemporary fitted kitchens with a range of integrated appliances including oven, microwave, dishwasher and fridge/freezer, give the family an ease of living. The bathrooms and en suites include white sanitaryware with cream floor and wall tiling, while the master bedrooms all include fitted wardrobes with sliding mirrored glass doors.

Situated on the southern fringe of the city centre, Abode is part of Great Kneighton, where Countryside is creating over 2,250 new homes and a wide range of community facilities, including a proposed health centre, shops, library, community square, sports pitches and a public art programme.

Abode is located close to the Great Kneighton access point for the award winning fast-track Cambridgeshire Guided Busway. Providing a 17 minute journey to the city centre and train station, the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway links to Cambridge train station. From the train station there are regular services to London’s Liverpool Street and King’s Cross stations, as well as to Stansted Airport. By car, the M11 is only a few minutes away.

Perfect for families, a new 120 acre Country Park is currently being constructed which will contain woodland, four ponds including a 50,000m2 bird reserve, wetlands, allotments, playing fields for the proposed new secondary school, and a range of play areas, including an adventure playground.

Many of the properties are available with Help to Buy, the popular Government scheme that enables buyers to purchase with just a 5 per cent deposit and offers up to a 20 per cent loan (interest free for the first 5 years) of the value of the property, which can be repaid at any time or upon the sale of the home, meaning buyers will only need to secure a mortgage of up to 75 per cent.

Prices for homes within the Green Lanes at Abode range from £575,000 for a four bedroom house to £999,950 for a six bedroom house. For more information on Abode, visit abodecambridge.co.uk.
