New show home inspired by Hollywood and the high seas

A housebuilder is hoping for a wave of new interest in its Bideford venture when it opens its movie inspired show home on November 14.

It’s will be the first time buyers looking to anchor down in North Devon will have the opportunity to see Elan Homes’ impressive specification up close at the neighbouring May Court and Kathleen Grange developments.

The venture is named after the historic ship The Kathleen and May, which is registered in Bideford. Known to be the last remaining British built wooden schooner in existence, the famous vessel is set to star in Disney’s upcoming film Alice in Wonderland: Through The Looking Glass due for release in 2016.

Hollywood superstars Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter filmed on board over the summer. To celebrate the ship’s latest claim to fame, Elan’s interior designers Calico created a Disney inspired bedroom in the show home, attaching fabric sails to the ceiling which drape down over the bed to create a children’s fantasy adventure theme.

In fact, the entire four-bedroom ‘Bunbury’ design at May Court has been given a chic coastal-inspired makeover.

Designer Laura Whitely describes the show home’s appeal: “As well as taking inspiration from the Kathleen and May itself, the house reflects its surroundings in many ways. Given that the development’s is just a short drive away from some of Devon’s most scenic beaches and National Park walks, we have created a house that is bright and fun, bringing the outdoors in. Featuring coastal patterns with pastel shades of misty greys alongside accents of coral and aqua marine, the house has plenty of character and style in abundance.”

Andrea Nippe, sales director for Elan in the South, said: “We’ve taken our first reservations, with people keen to purchase “off-plan”, but we’re hoping the popularity of the homes will sail away once the show home opens on November 14!”

Help to Buy is available, which means purchasers only need a 5% deposit as the government provides an equity loan for up to 20% of the purchase price, which is interest free for five years.

Ideally located close to the town centre, off a quiet cul-de-sac off Mines Road, prices are from £295,000 for a four-bedroom detached family home at May Court.

The new show home and sales office are open Thursday to Monday from 10am to 5pm.
