Local community invited to view plans for land south of Tewkesbury Way, Lydiard Tregoze

Plans for a high quality new development incorporating significant areas of community open space on land to the south of Tewkesbury Way, not far from Lydiard House and Park, in Lydiard Tregoze will be unveiled by Taylor Wimpey at a public exhibition on Wednesday 19th November.

The event, which forms part of Taylor Wimpey’s commitment to engagement with the community, will be held at Lydiard House Conference Centre between 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

Taylor Wimpey has owned a large amount of land to the north east of Lydiard House and Park for over 20 years and for most of this time it has been left as scrub land for grazing.

As a demonstration of its commitment to bringing forward a scheme that integrates with and respects the local area, Taylor Wimpey is proposing to develop just three hectares of this land, constituting only 11% of Taylor Wimpey’s total land ownership, with surrounding fields being handed to the local community to act as a substantial green buffer between the residential area and the listed house and Parkland.

The scheme, which includes proposals for approximately 50 homes, will be sensitively designed and landscaped in consultation with local heritage bodies, local residents and stakeholders to preserve the setting and viewpoints to and from Lydiard House and Park, and St Mary’s Church, as well as minimise any impacts from other local viewpoints and existing housing.

Existing field boundaries and vegetation will also be retained to form robust screening for existing residents and to protect key local viewpoints. Wherever possible, the scheme will seek to retain and enhance existing natural features and there is the opportunity to create a wetland area, amenity interest and protected wildlife corridor.

Andy Cattermole, Planning Manager at Taylor Wimpey, outlined Taylor Wimpey’s commitment to working closely with the local community to determine the most appropriate design for this scheme:

“We are very aware of the sensitive nature of this site, given its location within Lydiard Tregoze, not far from Lydiard House and Park, and St Mary’s Church. With this key point at the forefront of our minds, we are working with award winning local architects and a highly skilled project team, including specialist heritage consultants, to ensure we develop an exemplary scheme. We are also committed to ensuring that large areas of green space are retained, and gifted to the local community.

“We are extremely keen to hear what local people think about our plans, and we are committed to responding to and addressing where possible community feedback throughout the development of these proposals. I look forward to meeting local residents at the public exhibition.”

Following the exhibition, the project team will review the comments received before submitting the planning application in early 2015.

Further information on the scheme can be requested via the project’s community information line 0800 298 7040 or online through the project specific social media channels including Twitter: @LydiardTregoze, Facebook: facebook.com/lydiardtregoze.

The project specific website, taylorwimpey.co.uk/lydiard-tregoze will also be kept up to date with information and ways of providing feedback on the plans.
