The impressive payload of 3800 kg, matched to the smaller overall footprint of the vehicle, were the two principal reasons why brewer Marston’s specified an Isuzu Forward N75.190, 7.5 tonne rigid for a specific operation in the south west, where it needed an additional vehicle to cope with expanding customer demand in the area.

Based out of Marston’s Exeter depot, the new Isuzu is turning heads everywhere. Not only is it a new vehicle, but it’s also sporting an award-winning livery on the Paneltex Transload manufactured curtain sided body. The Isuzu 7.5tonner features the distinctive Hobgoblin livery that recently won ‘Livery of the Year’ at the 2014 Motor Transport Awards.

According to Chris Evans, head of group logistics at Marston’s; “The short wheel-based Isuzu Forward is the ideal specification that allows us to deliver to premises that would ordinarily be done with a 3.5 tonne van owing to access restrictions. With the Isuzu, we can treble the payload capacity in comparison to the vans we used to operate on these routes, making the whole operation far more efficient and effective for our customers.”

The latest truck in that Marston’s distribution fleet is the first Isuzu within their Southern based fleet operation and is involved in dray work – delivering keg and cask beers, packaged goods, wines and spirits, consumables and POS to Marston’s existing customer base in the south west.

Marston’s anticipates that the vehicle will be covering approximately 25,000 miles per annum over a seven-year working life.

Working mainly on a five-day (Monday to Friday) delivery programme, the vehicle is also used on Saturdays occasionally, to accommodate emergency deliveries and also supporting community events.

One of the first jobs that the vehicle was involved in was to support the “Twin Town Challenge 2014”,  where a team from the Logistics department of Marston’s Wychwood brewery competed in a 4-day challenge event, travelling from Witney in Oxon to Le Mans in France, undertaking points based challenges to raise money for Special Effect, the charity that helps disabled young people. The Isuzu dray truck acted as a support vehicle, supplying beer and giveaways for this event.
