Horsted Park in Chatham has been named winner of a Kent Design and Development Award. Developed by leading housebuilder Countryside and designed by architects Proctor and Matthews, the scheme saw off the competition to win the category Best Major Residential project at the awards ceremony which took place on Thursday 6th November.

Jointly organised by Kent County Council, DHA Planning and Maxim PR, the Kent Design and Development Awards take place every two years and celebrate the design excellence of the county’s property and construction industry. As a category winner, Horsted Park will now go forward to compete for the Project of the Year trophy.

Iain McPherson, Managing Director of Countryside’ New Homes & Communities South Division comments: “We are delighted to receive this award which recognises the quality of the designs for Horsted Park and the successful way in which they are shaping a vibrant new community. We have taken great care to reflect local building methods and incorporate traditionally inspired materials that have been used in a contemporary way. Above all our vision was to establish an environment where high quality homes, good facilities and infrastructure, and pleasant green spaces combine to offer a welcoming place for people to call home.”

Medway Council's Director of Regeneration, Community and Culture Robin Cooper said: "It is excellent that a development in Medway has won such an award. The council's planning team worked closely with Countryside and supported the award winning project. We welcome those who bring extra investment into the area and provide vital new homes for our local people."

Horsted Park occupies the former site of the Mid-Kent College and includes new homes along with commercial and community space, as well as extensive public open spaces and landscaped parkland. Architecturally the properties are designed to reflect the rural vernacular of the Kent ‘farmsteads’ of the surrounding countryside. The scheme offers a variety of home designs to suit a range of residents from one or two bedroom apartments up to four bedroom houses. The first phase of 114 residential properties is currently under construction.

Horsted Park is located conveniently located between Chatham and Rochester with everything both towns have to offer in terms of retail, leisure and amenities. From Chatham station, less than two miles from Horsted Park, there are direct rail links into Central London while by road, the M2 is less than a mile away giving rapid access to the motorway network, London airports and channel ports and tunnel.

Currently available at Horsted Park is a selection of three and four bedroom houses with prices starting from £317,500. For further information, visit horstedpark.co.uk.
