Revolucion brews up specialist Café Cubano with artisan coffee launch
Manchester’s Revolucion de Cuba has joined the city’s coffee revolution as it launches its own bespoke premium blend, giving coffee connoisseurs a taste of the rich and intense Cuban daily staple.
Taking inspiration from the street corner coffee joints of Havana, Revolucion de Cuba will be serving up its signature Café Cubano also known as a Cuban Pull, a traditional Cuban espresso brewed over natural Demerara sugar. The unique blend of Arabica and Robusta beans make the perfect combination to drink as an espresso or a milky coffee.
Owners of Revolucion de Cuba, The New Inventive Bar Company, have overhauled its coffee offer, with beans that are sourced from mountain growers in Cuba, hand picked and roasted by Masteroast in the UK. Café Cubano delivers a powerful punch of aromatic and smooth chocolate and cherry notes, in authentic 8oz cups.
Staff have undergone intensive barista training in order to perfect the selection of brews, learning the art of artisan coffee making and the cultural significance of the Cuban coffee ritual. Drinks are served on individual trays with a Columbian chocolate brownie petit four and an accompanying domino set, for customers to enjoy the national Cuban pastime.
Ronnie Timmermans, General Manager at Revolución de Cuba commented: “Having recently been to Cuba to meet with some of our rum producers, we had the inspiration to create our own unique coffee blend to bring some of the magic of Cuban café culture back to Manchester.
“We are synonymous with beautifully crafted cocktails and a passionate party atmosphere however with a rapidly growing day trade from the business sector and increasing after dinner hot drink sales, we wanted to provide an authentic coffee experience for our customers to enjoy. We are confident that our new coffee will rival the quality offered by the indie coffee shops and the price of the high street big brands.”
Cuba was once the world’s largest exporter of coffee beans but saw a significant decline post revolution due to the mass exodus of expertise, a lack of investment and devastating hurricanes. There is now a resurgence of mountain coffee growers and interest from oversees markets.
The total UK coffee shop market will exceed 20,500 outlets and turnover of £8.7 billion by 2018, with 4.5% annual outlet growth over the next five years. With competition from not only independent coffee shops but also none specialist businesses such as pubs and restaurants.*
Revolucion de Cuba will be doing street sampling of their new Café Cubano week commencing 10th November, giving branded cups out for members of the public to exchange for a free cup of coffee.
