The award-winning Mercedes-Benz Vans range comprises three core model lines – and each is represented among the latest additions to the fleet of Ayrshire commercial building, refurbishment and maintenance contractor Simon Taylor Group.

The Symington-based company has purchased five vans from local Dealer Mercedes-Benz Commercial Vehicles Ayr. Two are 3.5-tonne Sprinters – a 319 CDI panel van and a 316 CDI chassis cab with Ingimex dropside body. One is a mid-sized Vito 116 CDI van. And the remaining two are small Citan 109 CDIs – a van and a Dualiner model with a second row of seats, which can carry up to five people while retaining a useful cargo capacity.

Smartly finished in silver with black lettering, the new vans replace the operator’s previous batch of Mercedes-Benz vehicles, which it has stood down after five years’ reliable service. All work across the UK, on a variety of commercial refurbishment and building maintenance contracts.

Managing Director Simon Taylor confirmed: “These are tough vans and experience has proved they can be trusted to stand up to hard work – we tend to make full use of their load-carrying capacities and send them on some long journeys, but they’ve never let us down.

“The flexible support from MBCV Ayr has been superb too,” he continued. “When routine maintenance is required the dealer will collect the van at the end of the day, service it outside our working hours and then bring it back the next morning ready to start work again. Its workshop team understand our business and always go the extra mile to keep our vans where we need them – out on the road.”

The Citans are Simon Taylor Group’s first from the range that marks the manufacturer’s entry into the small van market. Launched last year, the Citan is packed with clever features and powered by a fuel-efficient diesel engine which is offered with 75 hp, 90 hp and 110 hp power outputs, or a 114 hp petrol unit.

“We were delighted to be able to buy a van from Mercedes-Benz that give us all the quality we’ve come to rely on, in a more compact and economical package,” continued Mr Taylor. “For smaller jobs, or running around between sites, the Citans are very practical and we’re seeing a significant reduction in fuel consumption.”

He added: “I have been a guest of the dealer at the Mercedes-Benz VanExperience LIVE event twice, and seen for myself the standard safety systems fitted to these vehicles, in action alongside models from the competition. Those demonstrations have left me in no doubt that Mercedes-Benz vans are the safest on the road.”
