BBC One has commissioned a six-part series of the BAFTA-nominated show Don’t Tell the Bride, produced by Renegade Pictures. The new series will be the sister to the original hit BBC Three show, but for brides of all ages, made for a broad BBC One audience.

The show's format consists of a couple who are given a fixed budget to spend on their wedding - but it's the groom who gets full control. The couple must spend three weeks apart and without contact, during which the groom organises every aspect of the wedding - including the theme. venue, stag and hen dos, and choosing the dress.

BBC One brides, who are aged between 30 and 55, will give over their dream wedding plans to their husbands-to-be; the spotlight is very much on the groom, while the bride remains in the dark throughout. Fans of the show can still enjoy the emotional highs and lows in the build up to the big day. As the husbands-to-be go about about their secret planning it becomes clear that although the BBC One groom may be older, he’s not necessarily any wiser.

And the bride still has no idea where she’s getting married and who’s going to be there until the big day itself.

Charlotte Moore, Controller, BBC One, says: “Don’t Tell the Bride will bring a new flavour to BBC One and expand the range of factual entertainment programmes in the schedule, it will retain all the elements fans of the show love but re-imagined for a broad audience.”

Harry Lansdown, Director of Programmes, Renegade Pictures says: "The team is thrilled to be bringing the real life, romantic comedy of Don’t Tell the Bride, to a BBC One audience. It’s fascinating to see what marriage means to people of varying ages in modern Britain, and not just to the couple themselves, but to their wider family and children, whose lives are all impacted by the big day."

Commissioning Editors are Sam Bickley and James Hayes.
