Gorgeous views from the hotel

The Pilgrim Country House Hotel near Ross-on Wye is probably one of the most reasonably priced in England and has a very affordable two-night Valentine’s break from 13-15 February 2015.

The hotel is owned and run by ex-England and British lions rugby star Steve Boyle who hails from the 1980s era of Billy Beaumont and co., long before players started wearing orange boots and hair gel.

The hotel, which is in the village of Much Birch, commands panoramic views over the border to the Black Mountains in Wales, and is ideally situated for a romantic walk; the 150 mile Herefordshire Trail literally passes the hotel’s front door and other circular walks can be enjoyed direct from the hotel (free maps provided).

Other walking options include the Malvern Hills, Brecon Beacons, Forest of Dean and the Cotswolds, all of which are just a short drive away.

Also nearby is the market town of Hereford, with its live cattle market, 13th century cathedral and cider museum.

If you are feeling like splashing out on your loved one, then head for the Labels Outlet Shopping at Ross-on-Wye.

There are dozens of shops selling designer brands and the Seafood Bar is the perfect place for a glass of champagne and some oysters!

The hotel offers a choice with regards to dining; guests can either eat in the bar or in the renowned Valley Restaurant which serves dishes prepared using local ingredients by classically-trained chef Deepak Kumar (a member of the British Culinary Federation).

The Special two-night Valentines break costs from £85 pp which includes a romantic three course candlelit dinner and breakfast on both mornings (some rooms are dog friendly so the family pet can also enjoy a weekend away).
