A new trend is emerging of downsizers who are looking for a new, more manageable property whilst still safe in the knowledge that their new nest offers enough space for the family that come to stay. Bellway’s New Chrysalis Park development in Stevenage, offers the safety nest of extra bedrooms that is so important to downsizers as they are increasingly helping with grand-childcare.

Grandparents have an average of four grandchildren each in the UK, and two thirds (67%) of UK grandparents are providing childcare for their grandchildren. They also spend an average of 9 hours a week looking after grandchildren, according to research from RIAS , the over 50s specialist insurance provider.

Kevin Bowles, Sales Manager of Bellway North London comments: “We’ve seen a new trend of downsizers who are not necessarily looking for a smaller property, but a newer, more manageable one in peaceful surroundings. Whilst aspiring to have an easier lifestyle that comes with moving from the family home in which they brought up their children, but still with enough room to look after the grandchildren.”

The new four bedroom Fritillary is a great home for the ‘Safety Nesters’. The large entrance hall leads to a spacious living area with double doors opening out into the landscaped garden. A separate study and cloakroom is located near the kitchen / dining area which is the hub of the home. Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms which are good guest rooms, one with an en suite, and a further single bedroom and bathroom. Up on the second floor is the master suite, with an en suite and storage cupboard.

These attractive new homes in Stevenage benefit from an abundance of open spaces in the area, including Martin’s Wood, which is located less than half a mile south of New Chrysalis Park and provides woodland trails, while Fairlands Valley Park is also nearby with an 11 acre lake, providing a range of water sports and activities including wind surfing, kayaking and power boat courses. The park also boasts a running track, play areas, an aqua playground and a climbing wall, perfect for entertaining the grandchildren.

There are also several schools in the area, including Martin’s Wood Primary School and Lodge Farm Primary School, both located within walking distance of New Chrysalis Park.

Transport links are superb from Stevenage - by train London Kings Cross is around 30 minutes away, and services to Leeds, York and Cambridge are frequent. Within and around the town there are extensive local cycleways linking all areas of the town, including Chrysalis Park. Excellent road links offer quick access to the A1(M) for travel both north and south. Luton and Stansted Airports are only 15 and 28 miles away respectively.

Prices at New Chrysalis Park start from £319,995 for a four bedroom, three storey home. For further information, visit bellway.co.uk.
