The Council of Mortgage Lenders has revealed that mortgages for ‘second steppers’ are at the highest level in seven years. In 2010 the UK’s second steppers choice of new home was a three bed semi-detached house, but according to recent research by Lloyds Bank , buyers are looking to get more for their money and plan for the future, by ‘second stepping’ straight to a four bedroom detached property, outside of the city.

Buyers wishing to take that second step, can do so at Bellway’s New Chrysalis Park development in Stevenage. A range of three and four bedroom homes completed to a great specification are now available from £319,995 with the part exchange scheme.

Kevin Bowles, Sales Manager of Bellway Homes North London said: “Stevenage has become increasingly popular as buyers can get a lot more for their money than in London, yet it is ideally positioned for those who still need to commute into the City.”

“The homes at New Chrysalis Park have seen a lot of interest from young families, as with our part exchange scheme, we can ensure the move goes a lot smoother and more quickly too. Also, this early investment in a bigger property means they avoid paying moving costs and stamp duty each time they need more space.”

The new four bedroom Fritillary is a great home for the savvy ‘second stepper’. The large entrance hall leads to a spacious living area with double doors opening out onto the rear garden. A separate study and cloakroom is located near the kitchen / dining area which is the hub of the home. Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms which are good guest rooms, one with an en suite, and a further single bedroom and bathroom. Up on the second floor is the master bedroom, with an en suite shower room and storage cupboard.

These attractive new homes in Stevenage benefit from an abundance of open space in the area, including the adjacent Box Wood nature reserve and Martin’s Wood, which is located less than half a mile south of New Chrysalis Park and provides lovely woodland trails. Fairlands Valley Park is also nearby with an 11 acre lake, providing a range of water sports and activities including wind surfing, kayaking and power boat courses. The park also boasts a running track, play areas, an aqua playground and a climbing wall which is perfect for families.

There are also several schools in the area, including Martin’s Wood Primary School and Lodge Farm Primary School, both located within walking distance of New Chrysalis Park.

Transport links are superb from Stevenage - by train London Kings Cross is around 30 minutes away, and services to Leeds, York and Cambridge are frequent. Within and around the town there are extensive local cycleways linking all areas of the town, including New Chrysalis Park. Excellent road links offer quick access to the A1(M) for travel both north and south. Luton and Stansted Airports are only 15 and 28 miles away respectively.

Special offers are available on some properties such as Bellway’s part exchange scheme, which helps buyers to move more quickly, subject to availability and terms and conditions. This means buyers are able to sell their current home and the whole process can be completed very quickly, with all estate agent fees and valuations taken care of and a Bellway staff member on hand to help.

Prices at New Chrysalis Park start from £319,995 for a four bedroom, three storey home. For further information on the home, visit bellway.co.uk.
