Prospective homebuyers will soon be able to secure a unique property in a beautifully-restored Victorian building at Taylor Wimpey’s Compass Point development in Maybush, Southampton.

Crabwood House, a Grade II listed building with a stuccoed frontage and a Doric columned porch, is currently being sympathetically transformed into a stunning collection of eight fabulous one and two-bedroom apartments.

The renovation project will see many beautiful original period features – including cornices, the building’s main staircase and its historic Victorian conservatory – carefully preserved.

The apartments at Crabwood House are due to be launched in Spring 2015 and anyone interested in securing one of these exciting properties is advised to register their interest in advance.

Fiona Creed, Regional Sales and Marketing Director for Taylor Wimpey, says: “We are looking forward to launching this wonderful selection of apartments in Crabwood House.

“This unique refurbishment project has brought this 170-year-old building up to our exceptional 21st century standards, but at the same time has made sure its distinctive character is retained.

“We are combining existing period features, such as cornices, decorative plasterwork and joinery, with modern energy-efficient measures and top-quality materials, to create eight fabulous homes which will offer the very best of old and new.”

Crabwood House was originally built in 1842 as a suburban villa within 14 acres of farmland and gardens and was used as a family residence for nearly a century.

In 1940 the site became the home of Ordnance Survey after its main headquarters in London Road, Southampton, suffered enemy bomb damage during the Blitz.

Crabwood House continued to be used by Ordnance Survey after the construction of a new headquarters on the site, for many years being the hub of the Ordnance Survey Sports and Social Club until its closure in 2003. As early as 1943 the building was home to Crabwood Cycling Club, and it also hosted Southampton Postcard Club and the OS Under25 Club.

The renovation of Crabwood House forms part of the new community of Compass Point, which is being constructed on the former Ordnance Survey site.

Compass Point enjoys a convenient location in the established residential community of Maybush, just three miles from the centre of Southampton and only a short hop from the rural splendour of the New Forest.

There’s a choice of local supermarkets right on the doorstep while the West Quay Shopping Centre offers a wide selection of big name stores in the heart of the city.

For commuters, the nearby M271 offers quick access to the M27 and the region’s motorway network, while frequent rail services operate from Southampton station to London and all of the nation’s major cities.

The Compass Point Sales Information Centre is located off Romsey Road, Maybush, Southampton, SO16 9GJ, and open daily from 10am to 5pm.
