Baring Asset Management introduces the Strategic Bond Fund

2nd March 2015 Print

Baring Asset Management, the international investment management firm, has announced it has converted the Baring Global Bond Trust into a more flexible fixed income product – the Baring Strategic Bond Fund.  The Fund will be managed by Guy Dunham, Head of Global Aggregate, who joined Barings in May last year, and Richard Balfour, Fixed Income Investment Manager.

The Baring Strategic Bond Fund will aim to deliver consistent performance in a range of different market environments and will be not tied to a benchmark. The Fund will be unconstrained in its investment remit and will draw from a wide range of different sources: government and sovereign bonds in developed and emerging markets, investment grade and High Yield corporate bonds, currencies and derivatives.

Rod Aldridge Head of UK Wholesale, comments: “The low interest rate environment and wider market volatility is driving significant demand from investors for more flexible fixed income products that are able to generate strong and consistent returns. We believe that combining assets from around the globe can increase returns and reduce risk, while actively allocating between sectors can also enhance performance.

“Barings has a track record of successfully managing fixed income portfolios for over 35 years and the development of the Strategic Bond Fund will complement and capitalise on Barings’ specialist investment knowledge. The Baring Strategic Bond Fund and dedicated team behind the Fund will showcase our global fixed income market expertise.”

Structured as a UK Authorised Unit Trust, the objective of the Baring Strategic Bond Fund is to achieve long-term capital growth together with income. As at the end of December 2014, Barings had £7.8 billion in fixed income assets under management.
