Plans to redevelop the former Orpington Police Station have been approved by the London Borough of Bromley planning committee held on 24th March. The developer, Berkeley, has been given consent to deliver a residentially led mixed use development that includes 83 new homes together with a health and wellbeing centre at the site on Homefield Rise, Orpington, Kent.

The plans form part of the continued regeneration of Orpington town centre and will offer a development that is conveniently located and highly sustainable. The development, known as Brunswick Square, will provide a range of contemporary one and two bedroom apartments in a building fronting onto the existing public square, which will be greatly enhanced by S106 funding from the development. The scheme will also include a health and wellbeing centre located on the ground and first floor, retail space, secure basement parking and cycle storage.

Peter Smith, Managing Director of Berkeley Homes Eastern Counties comments: “We are pleased to have been given consent for our plans that will bring much needed new homes to Orpington town centre, along with a health and wellbeing centre that will offer services for local people. Our plans build on the continued improvements to Orpington town centre and will bring the highest standards of design and finish. We are now working hard to progress matters and start on site as soon as possible. With so much regeneration in the area, and excellent rail links into London, we anticipate that the new homes at Brunswick Square will attract a wide range of buyers, including first time buyers and young professionals.”

The scheme is located in a convenient position at the heart of Orpington town centre, close to the High Street and station. The site, which Berkeley purchased in 2014, has been vacant since the Metropolitan Police relocated in 2013. Berkeley’s plans for the development follow the principles of high quality design, aiming to set new standards for the town centre.

The project will be delivered by Berkeley Homes Eastern Counties, a local employer based in Sevenoaks, with around 100 direct employees and nearly 600 operatives employed on local development sites. The region is responsible for highly successful schemes nearby such as Ryewood in Dunton Green, Holborough Lakes in Holborough and Royal Wells Park in Tunbridge Wells.
