Enjoy a laid back Sunday

Savvy travellers know that one of the ways in which to obtain the best value breaks is by avoiding Friday and Saturday nights (which is when hoteliers know they can fill rooms) and instead got for Sundays to Thursdays when rooms tend to be cheaper.

For example the Pilgrim Country House Hotel near Ross-on-Wye has a special ‘Laid Back Sunday’ offer with overnight stays from just £45 pp (two sharing a room).

The hotel is located in the Wye Valley, mid-way between Hereford and Ross-on-Wye, and commands uninterrupted views over the border towards the Brecon Beacons and Black Mountains in Wales.

It is owned and run by ex-England rugby international Steve Boyle who is happy to escort guests on walks in the area with tales of his playing days, when the game was still amateur and players regularly behaved in a way in which would make newspaper headlines today!

Herefordshire is a haven for keen walkers and the famous Herefordshire Trail literally passes the front door of the hotel.

There are also many other circular walks that can be enjoyed from the hotel and free guides are available from reception.

The hotel has a traditional pub-style bar serving local beers and ciders and a menu comprised of classic pub fare.

Dinner is served in the Valley Restaurant which is located at the rear of the hotel with views across the border to Wales.

The price of the special ‘Laid Back Sunday’ is from £45 pp (two sharing a room) which includes a home-made cream tea on arrival, a three-course candlelit dinner for two and Bed & Breakfast in a Valley View or 4 Poster room with views of the Black Mountains.

Well-behaved dogs are also welcome in some rooms on the ground floor (£7.50 per dog per night).

Extra nights from £33 pp (two sharing a room).
