Stotfold residents invited to have their say on Taylor Wimpey homes plan

2nd September 2015 Print

Leading housebuilder Taylor Wimpey is inviting people in Stotfold to have their say on proposals for a new residential development in the town.

The developer is currently drawing up outline plans for up to 100 new high-quality homes – plus a large area of public open space neighbouring the River Ivel – on land to the south of Aspen Gardens, bordering Taylor Wimpey’s recently completed development off Taylor’s Road known as Beauchamp Mill.

Further information about the proposals will be unveiled during a public exhibition to be held at The Simpson Centre, Hitchin Road, Stotfold, on Tuesday 15th September between 3pm and 8pm.

The public consultation event will give local residents, businesses, community groups and other interested parties the chance to find out more about the scheme and discuss the plans with the Taylor Wimpey project team.

Comments received from those who attend the event will help to shape the development proposals before an outline planning application is finalised for submission to Central Bedfordshire Council.

Hannah Pattinson, Strategic Land Project Manager for Taylor Wimpey, says: “As a considerate, responsible developer we want to give people the chance to have their say on development plans for their area – and this is why we are inviting the local community to find out more about our proposals for a new residential development off Aspen Gardens, Stotfold.

“We are confident that this scheme will provide an attractive development of high-quality homes to meet a range of requirements and provide much-needed housing for local people, while also opening up a large area of public open space for the benefit of the whole community.

“Anyone who comes along to the public exhibition on Tuesday 15th September will be able to speak to members of our project team to find out more about our proposals and provide their feedback to help us develop and refine the emerging scheme.”

The proposed development site is located to the south-east of Taylor Wimpey’s now completed Beauchamp Mill development, accessed off Taylor’s Road, and to the east of existing housing in Silver Birch Avenue. The River Ivel runs alongside part of the site’s eastern boundary while playing fields are situated to the south.

The land under Taylor Wimpey’s control covers an area of approximately 19.5 acres although the new homes would occupy less than a third of the land, with Taylor Wimpey also proposing a linear informal wildlife area adjacent to the river corridor along with formal and informal public open space. Currently the land is in agricultural use and not publicly accessible.

Under the plans, Taylor Wimpey is seeking outline planning approval for the open space and up to 100 new homes, comprising a mix of property types including a proportion of affordable housing, together with access to the development.

This would establish the principal of residential development on the site, with all other matters, including property design, final layout and landscaping, to be dealt with through a separate future planning application.

Taylor Wimpey’s public exhibition is taking place at The Simpson Centre, Hitchin Road, Stotfold, SG5 4HP, on Tuesday 15th September between 3pm and 8pm, and all are welcome.

Those who are unable to attend will be able to access the information displayed at the event online at taylorwimpey.co.uk/aspen-gardens from Tuesday 15th September onwards.
