Five ways to treat the women in your life

14th October 2015 Print

Finding appropriate gifts for women is not always an easy task; there are just too many options. Rest assured though that there is a perfect present for everyone on the high street or online – here are some ideas for the fabulous females in your life.

Partner/wife

Jewellery is clearly an option and the list of high-quality design is almost infinite. One might consider, for added prestige, waiting until the winner of the gem award for industry design is announced early next year, from a list of three candidates. Haute joaillerie such as Dior should be matched to your partner’s favourite colours and shades.

For clothing, London Fashion Week was an ideal vantage point for ideas and influences. Versace’s sister label Versus showed for the first time in London, while other standout shows included Christopher Kane and Giles Deacon.

Mother

Jewellery and clothing are both suitable for mothers too, although they will probably have a different tone. Brooches and charms are a safe bet; The Theo Fennel arts collection from Harrods boasts 50 animal charms made from 18 karat white gold set with diamonds.

For the assorted extra gifts consider picture frames, furniture such as rugs and ornaments, all of which can be found at How To Spend It. Ask your father what might be a popular addition to your mum’s life and buy accordingly.

Daughter

Age and current trends are vital considerations for your offspring, but here’s an idea for the gift of memories: a holiday. Providers such as Audley Travel offer tailor made journeys to locations such as Australia, South Africa and India, but also roads much less travelled. Fancy treating your daughter, (and friends), to a trip to the Silk route in Uzbekistan, or a dive in French Polynesia?

If holidaying isn’t her thing, then perhaps the latest technology will make Netflix watching an even more pleasurable experience. Bose has brought Bluetooth back into its new Solo 15 series II TV sound system, enabling it to double as a music system and sound portal for the latest movies. The 10 best hi-fi systems in the world, according to Stuff magazine, can be found here.

Friend

For female companions the thought counts, more than expenditure. Personalised prints and canvases are a fine idea, although smaller is probably better than sizeable.  The simply titled art.co.uk is a treasure trove of stylistic simplicity, from contemporary art to limited edition prints and graphic designs.

For a friend with a taste for fine wine there are fewer better sources than Waitrose, with an online cellar including Penfolds Grange 2009 and Chateau Mouton Rothschild from the same year. Be warned though – the accompanying notes suggest that the latter is an investment and should not be uncorked until 2025 at least.

Work colleague

Buying a gift for a work colleague will depend on their passions, hobbies and lifestyle, but one idea that can never really fail is a bouquet. London buyers will appreciate beautiful autumn blooms from Appleyard Flowers, with bouquets including Rose Envy (a mix of rose and berries) and Harmony (roses, freesia and trachelium).
