Brits prefer to celebrate Christmas with a break on the continent

14th December 2015 Print

European breaks top the list of Christmas getaways for Brits. Dublin tops our preferred Christmas getaways with almost double the number of flight bookings than Amsterdam which takes second in the list, based on bookings made with CheapOair.co.uk.

Scots and Mancunians are seeking some festive sunshine with Tenerife, Barcelona and Alicante in the top 10 Christmas break destinations for both Manchester and Edinburgh airport. Brummies take the top-spot for festive enthusiasm with Christmas market favourites Berlin and Dusseldorf both in the top ten cities for flights booked from Birmingham Airport.

Londoners are split between keeping it wintry and heading for warmer climes. Six of the top 10 cities they are flying to this Christmas are in northern Europe – including Reykjavik in Iceland where temperatures are set to reach as low as -5°C over the festive period – with the remaining four including three Spanish cities and the long-haul, guaranteed sunshine spot, Bangkok.

The top ten festive escape destinations booked by Brits this year are:

Dublin
Amsterdam
Paris
Malaga
Barcelona
Cork
Tenerife
Lisbon
Belfast City
Alicante
