Nearly half of those thinking of moving home over the next three years plan to downsize, as they try to release the wealth locked up in their homes, according to a new study by Lloyds Bank. Moving into a smaller house has become the most popular reason for changing homes, with 46 per cent of homeowners citing it as their main reason for making the move, to free up cash for their retirement, reduce their bills and cut down on property maintenance. Offering the perfect pad for downsizers in the popular Hampshire town of Aldershot, the stylish three-bedroom Barossa apartment from Bellway is located on the landmark new development at Wellesley, which is transforming into a thriving new community in its own right.

Situated on a former garrison site, the Wellesley development enjoys a prime location for a great range of shopping and leisure amenities in the town centre, as well as boasting its own managed woodlands, parks and a specially developed Heritage Trail to take in the site’s locally listed and Grade II listed buildings and memorials. A neighbourhood centre will also be delivered to serve as the hub of Wellesley, providing a place for residents and the local community to meet.

Claire Brooks-McGoldrick, Sales Director for Bellway Homes Thames Valley, comments: “Maida has been designed to meet the needs of a wide range of buyers, and downsizers are no exception. Our Barossa apartment, which is available with Help to Buy offers stylish open-plan living, and, crucially, as a new build, residents can enjoy a more energy efficient, and maintenance-free home. Furthermore, the masterplan for Wellesley promises some first-class amenities, along with an enviable location next to a unique conservation area. Empty nesters looking to downsize should act quickly to secure this great opportunity to become part of an exciting new community.”

The Barossa is a spacious 1251ft² ground-floor three bedroom apartment on the edge of the first phase, benefitting from a secure video entry system and a contemporary open-plan kitchen, living and dining area. A stylish bay window maximises natural light throughout the kitchen, which boasts contemporary stainless steel Zanussi appliances, Roundel soft-close units and attractive downlighters.

Three generous double bedrooms are also presented, two of which boast contemporary en-suite shower rooms. A large modern bathroom, with white Roca sanitaryware and stylish chrome fittings is adjacent to bedroom two.

As well as providing thousands of new homes, Grainger plc and the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) have revealed some exciting proposals for bringing the 630-acre Wellesley neighbourhood to life over the next two decades, including the delivery of a new Neighbourhood Centre situated in the beautiful 4th division building, which will serve as a lively central hub, with shops and cafés, and leisure facilities. Active, adventurous and social residents can splash about at the nearby Aldershot Lido, catch a show at the West End Centre, tuck in at one of the many tasty restaurants in the town and surrounding villages, or explore the area’s martial past at the Military History Museum.

Wellesley is located next to internationally significant areas for nature conservation, and the creation of Wellesley Woodlands - 270 acres of leafy, interlinked woodlands, threaded by 16km of nature trails and dotted with freshwater lakes – is ideal for those who enjoy long strolls and the great outdoors. Access to these ancient woodlands, along the Basingstoke Canal, will be part of the first phase, offering cycleways and pathways, for the benefit of Wellesley residents and the wider Aldershot community for years to come.

The Maida development is ideally situated for transport links to popular local destinations such as Farnham, Farnborough, Woking and Guildford. Aldershot railway station boasts direct links to London Waterloo, whilst North Camp station is only a five -minute drive from the site, with direct lines to Reading and Guildford.

The stylish three-bedroom ground floor, Barossa apartment, is priced at £349,950 and is available with Help to Buy. To find out more and to register your interest in a new home at Maida in Aldershot, visit bellway.co.uk.
