A far cry from its humble origins as quarters for stables and staff, nowadays the mews house is a highly desirable property type in its own right and has never been more popular. The modern take on the mews house offers flexible living accommodation for those who want a home with a traditional feel but 21st century luxury. At Acton Gardens in South Acton W3, a joint venture between Countryside and L&Q, a collection of 13 mews and townhouses houses are being created, reimagining the mews design to create homes of modern elegance and luxury specification.

Traditionally mews houses were built behind London’s grandest squares and terraces, providing accommodation for horses, carriages and servants, but with their conversion to residential use widespread over the past century, the mews house has become one of the UK’s most aspirational house styles.

Andrew Loveday, Sales Director at Countryside comments: “At Acton Gardens we are taking the best elements of the architectural style synonymous with the traditional mews house and recreating it to complement this modern urban setting, while offering sumptuous interior living space that will appeal to couples and families who appreciate the finer things in life. This collection of just 13 properties offers the first opportunity to purchase a house at Acton Gardens, and with this in mind we urge potential purchasers to act fast and visit the marketing suite, before it’s too late!”

Each four-bedroom mews house offers more than 1,300 sq ft of interior space arranged over three or four floors. Interiors are designed with flexible free flowing living space featuring extensive glazing to maximise natural light. All the homes also benefit from a generously sized decked terrace or landscaped garden to the rear, providing an attractive space for entertaining guests. In addition, some of the homes provide a second terrace on the top floor, exclusive to the master bedroom.

The new homes boast a superb specification, with contemporary fitted kitchens featuring stone worktops and matching upstand, handle-less gloss base and tall units alongside matt wall units, chrome accessories and ceramic floor tiles. A range of A+ rated integrated appliances also come as standard. Bathrooms and en suites comprise crisp white sanitaryware with chrome finishes and contrasting ceramic tiling.

A range of new social and commercial community facilities will be built at the Hub, a 55,000 sq ft facility that will be located in the centre of Acton Gardens. This will also include a central plaza with a supermarket, new public open space and other community amenities, helping to bring residents of all age groups together.

Green open space plays a vital role at Acton Gardens, with tree-lined streets designed around a series of parks, squares and communal gardens, featuring extensive landscaping, play areas and allotments. Some of the homes also boast views overlooking New West Park. In a nod to the traditional appeal of London’s parks and squares, the outdoor spaces are designed to create social places for people to relax and enjoy, where pedestrians have priority and community interaction is encouraged. Nearby, South Acton Park also provides an urban park with mature trees lining the footpaths and a play area for children. The plans also include a proposed new bus route and street network linking with the surrounding area, as well as a car club for residents use.

With excellent transport connections, Acton Gardens is located within a short walk of Acton Town underground station providing Piccadilly and District Line services into the West End and the City. It is also close to Acton main line station, which will benefit from becoming a station on the Crossrail line when it opens in 2019.

Nearby Chiswick High Street offers an exciting range of designer boutiques, good pubs and restaurants, whilst the Westfield regional shopping centre at White City is only 20 minutes away by tube. For sports enthusiasts, golf is available at Old Deer Park, pitch and putt at Gunnersbury Park and tennis in Acton Park.

The Mews and Townhouse collection at Acton Gardens is priced from £935,000. For further sales information, visit actongardens.co.uk.
