Let La Treyne take the Christmas strain - 2-night festive breaks at Chateau de la Treyne

Chateau de la Treyne

For a magical Christmas break look no further than fairy-tale Château de la Treyne. In a stunning location near Lacave in the Lot département, the castle is reflected in the prettiest stretch of the Dordogne. Combining contemporary luxury with timeless French style and savoir vivre, it has been voted the most romantic hotel in France.

La Treyne’s Christmas package, priced from €1060, includes two nights for two people sharing a heavenly superior room, a lavish breakfast each morning, a romantic candlelit dinner on Christmas Eve and a festive gourmet meal on the 2nd day: arrive on Friday December 23 or Saturday December 24 – you choose. Additional nights are available from December 26 to 30 from €200 per room per night based on 2 sharing b&b.

Every meal is prepared by the Michelin star-rated kitchen brigade led by Stéphane Andrieux who, like most of the staff, has been with the hotel for more than ten years as part of a family team creating a warm homely ambience. The sensitively converted 14th and 17th century château offers 17 exquisite rooms and suites furnished with antiques that sit comfortably with striking contemporary furniture.

Echoing the perfection of Château de la Treyne’s interior décor, the festive decorations are of breathtaking quality. Every room is adorned with Christmas figurines, perfumed candles, twinkling stars and miniature fir trees. Four beautiful Christmas trees give off a scent of pine, each decorated in a style evoking a different period, from the 11th to the 17th centuries. The tree in the Cardaillac Salon steals the show - a tall Christmas fir covered from top to bottom with white garlands and silver balls.

If you want some gentle exercise while staying at Château de la Treyne, the 300-acre estate has a wealth of beautiful forest walks and jogging trails. Or enquire about a ½-day truffle hunt: the château’s forest has plenty of truffle oaks.

Fly to Toulouse or Bordeaux Airports (British Airways, Easyjet and other major airlines) or travel by road or rail.
