This time of year can get unbearably hectic. Everything from Christmas shopping to seeing family seems like a massive uphill struggle. Even after the festivities, you can still feel stressed and worn out. However, there are some very simple ways of helping you de-stress after what is a manic time of year. Below, we’ve put together just some of them.

Have a weekend away

Weekends away are a great way to relax at any time of the year, so why should Christmas be any different? At this time of year, there are some great offers on weekend trips and hotels. Places such as The Wood Norton offer two-day holiday packages at a good price. On top of this, The Wood Norton also has special luxury events around the New Year period. This would be a great idea for a brief trip away as there is usually plenty going on.

Watch a film

There’s no shortage of new films at the cinema at this time of year, even after the festive period. Unwind by watching some of the newest blockbusters either by yourself or with your family. As long as you can agree on something that you all want to see. It’s also a good time of year for some great films to be shown on TV. There’s something for everyone from old classics to the newest children’s films. Finding a new series to watch on something like Netflix or Amazon Prime is quite popular and relatively cheap, too, with series' that cover almost every base of interest.

Go for a walk

Walking is the most underrated form of transport that we all have access to and, best of all, it's free. Even if you live in the city, it's possible to take yourself out for a pleasant walk. Visit places you've never been before. Walking is an excellent form of stress relief and also a great form of basic exercise to help you begin to lose any weight that you may have put on over the festive period.

Spend time with family and friends

In the true spirit of Christmas, it may also be beneficial to spend time with your close family and friends. After all, it's what Christmas is all about, isn't it? According to the NHS, spending time with friends and family can reduce stress as well as any personal pressure.

Have some time to yourself

Sometimes, you may want to enjoy your own company rather than have to be stuck with other people. Spend some time reading or watching a favourite film. Sometimes at Christmas, it seems like you spend every day being surrounded by other people and you just want to get away from it. Even something as simple as a brief walk can make all the difference.

Any of these things should provide some relief to the stress of the festive period, be it with other people or by yourself. However you choose to celebrate, have fun and have a very Merry Christmas!
