Relay - the ace in the pack for Citroen & Ace Cafe London!

Relay - the ace in the pack for Citroen & Ace Cafe London! A Citroen Relay van is now taking a high-profile role at the iconic, retro-themed Ace Cafe London. Thanks to a sponsorship deal between Citroen and this famous, North Circular based venue, the Relay van is being used to help promote the Ace Cafe London at numerous specialist car events and motorbike rallies throughout the UK.

Mark Wilsmore, Ace Cafe London’s managing director, remarks, “Ace Cafe London is a unique venue, as it arranges and hosts the UK’s most comprehensive programme of motorbike and performance/classic/sports car meets, as well as offering good food and rock & roll music. The new Citroen Relay perfectly meets our needs and will greatly help our publicity efforts on and off site.”

Marc Raven, Citroen’s director of communications, comments, “Citroen is delighted to support the Ace Cafe London, the UK’s largest venue of its type. The company is also pleased to renew a relationship that goes back over 50 years when, in the immediate post-war period, the complex actually included a Citroen dealership.”

The Ace Cafe London is operating a long wheelbase Relay 35 L3H2 120 van which, in common with all Relay models, is fitted with Trafficmaster Smartnav satellite navigation and Trackstar stolen vehicle tracking as standard. It is one of a recently-launched range of over 70 Relay models spanning the 3.0 to 4.05 tonne sector.

Not only was the Ace Cafe a new phenomenon when it was built in 1938, but it achieved almost iconic status in its heyday and, in the last decade, has undergone an amazing renaissance.

Uniquely designed as a self-contained facility catering for motorists, the complex included a cafe, restaurant, vehicle repair facilities and a fuel station as well as a car showroom. Destroyed during an air raid in 1940, it was rebuilt in its current form after the war. During the 1950s it became a popular meeting place for motor cyclists and rock & roll fans alike, but by the 1960s its popularity was on the wane and it closed in 1969. The building was then used for a wide range of applications until it was completely refurbished and reopened in 2001 as Ace Cafe London.
