Naylors Garage takes delivery of first new Iveco Daily City Artic Leeds-based Naylors Garage has taken delivery of the first Iveco Daily City Artic to be built on the new Daily light commercial vehicle chassis.

Supplied by local distributor Northern Commercials, the Daily City Artic 65C18 is being used with a bespoke-built trailer manufactured by Triffitt Trailers and is designed to recover broken-down cars, vans and motorhomes. It joins a fleet of 12 vehicles, comprised mainly of other Daily models and including a smaller Daily City Artic 40C15, which has been operating on the fleet for the past year.

Ian McRae, owner of Naylors Garage, explains: “The Iveco Daily meets our requirement for a small articulated vehicle head-on, with this latest order being placed following our positive experiences of operating Daily vehicles and the good relationship we have developed with Northern Commercials.

“The new vehicle and trailer combination gives us a gross train weight of 10 tonnes, allowing us to recover fully-laden 3.5 tonne vans and motorhomes without the expense and running costs of operating a larger rigid vehicle,” he adds.

Like all Daily City Artics sold in the UK, the vehicle was converted by North East Truck & Van’s engineering division, Iveco’s sole independent Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) centre in the UK. It joins nearly fifty Daily City Artics delivered to customers in the UK since 2001, being used for applications ranging from transporting horse box trailers and mobile classrooms through to trailers equipped to carry cars, boats and construction equipment.

The new vehicle will operate primarily within a 30 mile radius of Leeds, but in line with the company’s contracts with The AA, Green Flag, Mondial and Europ (correct) Assistance, it will also be used to recover broken-down vehicles to destinations the length and breadth of the UK.

The tri-axle trailer is the result of a 12-month development process and benefits from full air-suspension, allowing the height to be adjusted during the loading process to ensure vehicles with a long rear-overhang, such as larger motorhomes, can be easily loaded without grounding.

Power comes from Iveco’s top-of-the-range 3.0 litre HPT engine delivering an impressive 176 hp, with 400 Nm of torque between 1,250 and 3,000 rev/min. The specification also includes a light bar and flashing beacons, together with conspicuity graphics to ensure maximum visibility during the hours of darkness.
