Iveco to deliver 4,500 Daily’s to Deutsche Post

6th March 2009 Print
Iveco Daily Deutsche Post has selected Iveco to be its commercial vehicle partner, with 4,500 of its 7,500-strong vehicle fleet currently used under the DHL brand in Germany due to be replaced with new Ivecos over the next three years.

The new Iveco fleet forms part of a complete transport solution developed specifically to enable Deutsche Post to deliver parcels. The deliveries will comprise 3.5 tonne Dailys, each powered by a 116 hp Euro 4 diesel engine driven through Iveco’s automated AGile gearbox, which is designed to reduce fuel consumption and driver fatigue.

This proven transmission, available across the Daily range, provides completely automated gear shifting and is especially effective in terms of fuel economy when compared against hydrodynamic automatic transmissions.

The vehicles specified for Deutsche Post will also be fitted with a diesel particulate filter, which makes them the most environmentally friendly model currently available on the market in Germany. The particulate filter serves to lower the particle emissions significantly below the limits currently in place, which will support Deutsche Post’s GoGreen programme, which is aiming to improve CO2 efficiency by 10 per cent by 2012.

A key factor in Deutsche Post’s decision to appoint Iveco as its supplier lies in the strength and robustness of the Daily chassis, which will help prolong the life of the vehicle. Each vehicle is being custom built to meet Deutsche Post’s exact requirements, with the area from the driver’s seat to the load compartment being generously proportioned and leading directly into a clearly laid out system of shelving on both sides, which meets all the requirements for securing loads. Significant attention has been placed on enhancing the ergonomic layout of the body structure, with low entry and exit access via the sliding side door making the work of the delivery staff as efficient and simple as possible.
