New residents go back to school in Marlborough

When Adam Carlton and Laura Hothersall, the first residents to move into Crest Nicholson’s St John’s Park development in Marlborough, left St John’s School in 2003, they had no idea that there first home together would be on the site of their former school.

The 22 year olds couldn’t believe their luck when they realised they could afford to buy a three bedroom Hereford home at the development in such a sought after area. Adam, who is originally from Chisledon and is now a director of a refrigeration and air conditioning business in Swindon, said: “We were both living with our parents and had been saving for a while, then when the market took a tumble this gave us the perfect opportunity to get on the property ladder.

“Obviously we know the area really well as we went to school here and Marlborough is a great place to live and offers good shops and a leisure centre, which I use for playing squash and football and Laura plans to use for pilates. It’s also where all of our friends live so the fact that we could afford to buy our first home here was amazing.”

The new development is being built on the site of St John’s School and Community College, as the school is currently building a new state-of-the-art facility for its 1,500 pupils on the South side of Marlborough.
