Austrian Airlines flies back in time

2nd April 2008 Print
To celebrate the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the firtst Austrian Airlines scheduled flight, the company has launched services using one of its aircraft in a design dating back to the 1950s. The Austrian Airbus A320 bearing the identification OE-LBP now appears in the same design as the first aircraft ever flown by Austrian Airlines, the Vickers Viscount, from 1958.

The association with the successful present is created by the current Austrian symbol, the Austrian Airlines brand name in the present-day script, and the supplement “Flying for your smile since 1958”. The aircraft was redesigned from 16 to 22 March 2008.

From its Vienna hub, the Austrian anniversary jet overwhelmingly flies to the major cities of Europe. Services typically operate to destinations such as Paris, London, Athens and Frankfurt. The Airbus A320 has a wingspan of 34.1 metres, and is 37.6 metres in length. There is ample space on board to seat 159 passengers, who can then travel safely and quickly to the destination. The maximum departure weight is 75.5 tons, and the maximum cruising speed 889 km/h (480 knots).
