Austrian implements etix electronic ticketing across network

5th June 2008 Print
In a concerted effort to meet the requirements of the IATA (International Air Transport Association), Austrian Airlines will only offer etix electronic tickets for all its 130 destinations from now onwards. The company changed over to the new system on 1 June 2008, within the agreed deadline.

As a result, the 130 airports that go to make up the global route network of the Austrian Airlines Group will now be able to invite their passengers to enjoy the numerous different benefits of “paper-free” flying. This applies to all scheduled destinations and charter destinations with individual sales.

Issuing electronic tickets for other airlines, a procedure known as ‘Interlining’, is also being expanded continuously, and is now possible with more than 100 partner airlines worldwide.

Austrian Chief Operations Officer Dr. Peter Malanik said the following about the new system: “By converting to electronic tickets from 1 June, we have succeeded in passing an absolutely crucial milestone. Austrian now becomes one of the first airlines to have completed this conversion. With etix, our customers can save themselves time and money, as well as using services such as Web Check-in, with its boarding pass printout function. We are constantly working on new technologies to make preparing to travel by air whilst still on the ground a more pleasant experience for our guests than is already the case.”

In order to fly using an etix, all you need is a Miles & More card or credit card number as personal identification. In the event that a prospective passenger owns neither a Miles & More card nor a credit card, etix can also be used in combination with a form of photographic identification. With etix, passengers can also use the Austrian Airlines website to check in, choose a seat and print off their boarding pass from the comfort of their own home or office. This enables those travelling within a tight schedule to save themselves valuable time.

There is also a financial benefit to be gained from booking with etix: passengers pay only EUR 10 ticket service charge by booking through the Austrian Airlines website (austrian.com), EUR 35 by booking at any other Austrian Airlines booking centre (for Europe and the Middle East), or EUR 45 for long-haul flights.

Tickets can be booked through the company website at Austrian.com.
