bmibaby announces routes to Barcelona, Lisbon, Marseille Provence and Rome

2nd December 2006 Print
bmibaby the award winning airline with tiny fares and the Midlands number one carrier has launched phase two of it’s exciting rapid expansion programme at Birmingham International Airport for Summer 2007. The expansion plan breaks down into three key initiatives: the introduction of four new routes to Barcelona, Lisbon, Marseille Provence and Rome (Fiumicino); a ramping up of frequencies on key Mediterranean routes; and an increase in frequencies on key domestic routes.

The four new routes together with the recently launched services to Aberdeen, Glasgow International, Murcia and Faro take the total number of destinations served by the airline at Birmingham International Airport to 20. The daily Barcelona service will commence on the 25th March 2007 with fares starting from just £19.99 one way including taxes and charges. The new daily service to Rome (Fiumicino) which commences on the 24th May 2007, and the four times a week services to Marseille Provence and Lisbon commencing on the 25th May 2007, are brand new unserved routes from Birmingham International Airport. Fares on these new routes start from just £24.99, £19.99 and £24.99 respectively. All fares are one way, including taxes and charges and are available for booking now at bmibaby.com

The second part of the expansion plan sees a significant ramping up of frequencies on key Mediterranean routes to meet increasing consumer demand. bmibaby will now offer 12 flights per week to Malaga, a massive 50% increase in weekly flights versus last summer and eight flights a week to Alicante. The airline also offers daily flights to Palma and Nice.

The final part of the expansion plan sees bmibaby increasing the number of daily flights on its low cost services to Edinburgh and Glasgow International, a great benefit for business passengers. Demand for these routes continues to be high as consumers take advantage of truly low fares starting from just £13.99 one way including taxes and charges. Fares on these routes are up to 42% cheaper than the fares from existing carriers on the same routes. In response to the demand, bmibaby has increased its Edinburgh service to four times per day during the week and its Glasgow International service increases to three flights per day during the week.

David Hodge, bmibaby’s marketing director, said “I am pleased to announce phase two of bmibaby’s rapid expansion programme at Birmingham International Airport. It’s a fantastic boost for the local economy and the people of the West Midlands region as we introduce four exciting new routes to Barcelona, Lisbon, Marseille Provence and Rome (Fiumicino). Fares start from just £19.99 one way including taxes and charges. We are also ramping up the number of weekly flights to some of our Mediterranean destinations with services to Malaga increasing to 12 flights per week and Alicante increasing to eight flights per week.

“bmibaby continues to be the only airline at Birmingham International Airport pioneering truly low fares to Scotland from just £13.99 one way, including taxes and charges. To cater for the increasing number of passengers choosing to take advantage of these fares, we have upped the Edinburgh service to four flights a day during the week. Flights to Glasgow International have also been increased to three flights per day during the week a great benefit for business passengers. The new additions to our services from Birmingham are all available for booking now at bmibaby.com

“This exciting development will make bmibaby, which is already the Midlands number one carrier, the largest existing carrier at Birmingham International Airport. The airline remains committed to developing and expanding our services at Birmingham International Airport, creating more jobs and providing further economic growth to the West Midlands region. More news will be announced over the coming months as we embark on phase three of our rapid growth agenda”.

bmibaby will have eight Boeing 737 aircraft based at the airport for summer 2007 offering over 350 weekly flights to and from the region. All of the airlines summer routes are now on sale at bmibaby.com.
