Rugby fans around the country will be able to watch their team in action at the RBS 6 Nations rugby in 2010, as bmibaby announce special flights for the games.

The airline will add 14 extra services to its flight schedule and will operate unique flights from Edinburgh to Dublin, Cardiff to Dublin and Edinburgh to Rome to coincide with the RBS 6 Nations rugby matches. These routes have previously not been operated by bmibaby and are additions to the current flying programme. In total the airline expects to carry over 2000 extra passengers to the matches on the additional services.

This news comes just weeks after bmibaby announced a special one off flight from Manchester to Porto to enable football fans to watch Manchester United take on F.C. Porto in the Champions League. This flight was a huge success and had a 90 per cent load factor.

Julian Carr, commercial director, bmibaby, said:

“During the 2009 RBS 6 Nations our flights filled up extremely quickly between Cardiff, Edinburgh and Belfast. As a result we have decided to offer additional unique flights during the RBS 6 Nations 2010. Fans will now be able to fly from their local airport to see the all important matches.

“We are sure that the extra flights from Cardiff to Edinburgh, plus the unique flights from Edinburgh to Dublin, Cardiff to Dublin and Edinburgh to Rome will prove extremely popular with fans wanting to go and cheer on their team. The RBS 6 Nations is one of the most important events on the international rugby calendar and fans should book early to grab a flight at a fantastic fare.”
