Bellinzona, the capital of Switzerland’s Canton Ticino, now has its name on a SWISS aircraft. The new Airbus A330-300 HB-JHC was named last month at Zurich Airport.

The naming was performed by Brenno Martignoni, the mayor of Bellinzona, in a ceremony that was also attended by Marco Solari, president of Ticino Tourism, SWISS CEO Harry Hohmeister, numerous further guests and media representatives.

Bellinzona, the capital of Switzerland’s Canton Ticino, has been selected for the naming of the second aircraft in SWISS’s new long-haul Airbus A330-300 fleet. “As a major Swiss tourist and cultural destination, we are honoured that SWISS, an airline of such global renown, should name one of its new Airbuses after our town,” said mayor Brenno Martignoni as he performed the naming ceremony.

SWISS CEO Harry Hohmeister was equally enthusiastic. “With today’s event, and the fact that one of our most advanced long-haul aircraft will now carry the name ‘Bellinzona’ all over the world, we are underlining the especially close ties we feel to Southern Switzerland,” he explained. The Bellinzona name will be carried on the aircraft’s outer hull, while the town’s coat of arms will be displayed in the aircraft’s cabin.
