Virgin Atlantic celebrates 25th birthday Virgin Atlantic has been celebrating 25 years in the sky by re-creating the inaugural flight from the 22nd June 1984. Furthermore, Sir Richard Branson topped off the celebrations by announcing a $2.1 Billion order 10 Airbus A330’s.

The Virgin Mogul made the announcement yesterday, right after dancing with supermodel Kate Moss on the wing of one of his planes.

The order is a sign of Virgin Atlantic’s confidence during the current financial climate. Moreover, Sir Richard was keen to point out that it his Virgin staff that encompass the main reason why Virgin Atlantic has been, and continues to be so successful – a promising statement during a tenuous time for aviation staff across Britain.

Since 1984, 65 million passengers have flown on Virgin Atlantic and despite the cost of living more than doubling over 25 years, Virgin Atlantic’s fares on New York flights have come down. The flights to New York (excl. taxes and charges) were £119 in 1984 and in 2009 the same flight retails at £103.
