Walking in magical Madagascar

2nd December 2008 Print

Walking specialist operator, Ramblers Worldwide Holidays, has just launched a new holiday to Madagascar as part of extensive global portfolio (250 destinations in 70 countries).

This naturalist’s dream adventure begins in Antananarivo – the highland capital – a shanty town with street markets, bougainvillea and brightly coloured houses ringed by distant peaks.

Then, it is north east to the dense rainforests of Anjozorobe – (famed for its lemurs, birds and exotic plants) and Ampefy near Itasy Lake (renowned for its waterfalls and geysers).

Next, is onto the elegant spa town of Antsirabe, then west to Miandrivazo and Morondava and then the Kirindy Reserve (to view an outstanding array of tortoises and chameleons) and the Boabab Alley.

The final leg of the journey is Bekopaka and the geographical highlight of the tour, the Tsingy – a huge area of limestone pinnacles harbouring a wide range of wildlife which is now a UNESCO heritage site.

Price £2,947, departing 4 October 2009 - two weeks, half board includes return flights from Heathrow, transfers and the services of a tour leader.
